Giant regenerated plastic animals take over the town centre of Limone Piemonte
In the summer of 2026, Limone Piemonte, a historic tourist destination in the Maritime Alps in the province of Cuneo, is literally invaded by the giant animals of the Cracking Art movement. For the first time, the Municipality of Limone Piemonte, in the heart of Piedmont, turns into a large, widespread open-air art gallery: dozens of colourful sculptures appear along Via Roma and the main squares of the historic centre, engaging with the alpine village's architecture and the surrounding landscape.
The installations, made of recycled and recyclable plastic, are striking for their oversized dimensions and intense colours. Highlights of the exhibition include:
Founded in 1993, Cracking Art is an international artistic movement that uses recycled plastic as its primary material, transforming it into brightly coloured sculptures. Its famous 'invasions' have animated squares and monuments in numerous Italian and European cities, conveying a message that blends contemporary art with environmental awareness: the protagonists are often animals, symbols of the relationship between humans, nature, and urban spaces.
The animals arrive in the town centre starting 10 June, while the official inauguration is scheduled for Friday, 19 June at 16:30 in Piazza del Municipio, in the presence of the artists and curators. Concurrently, the 'Limone da Favola' photo contest kicks off: simply post your photos on Instagram, tag @mylimone, and use the hashtag #LimoneDaFavola by 31 August. A jury of experts will award the most beautiful and creative shots of the installations with three original Cracking Art pieces.
The initiative is promoted by My Limone and the Associazione Ego Bianchi, in partnership with the Senesi Arte Gallery, with the support of the Municipality of Limone Piemonte and the Fondazione CRC (Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo), alongside the collaboration of numerous local entities. The exhibition runs throughout the summer season, making Limone Piemonte a unique destination for those seeking art, nature, and family fun in the Piedmontese mountains.
The first Cracking Art exhibition in Limone Piemonte transforms the alpine village into an open-air gallery for the entire summer season.
