About Earth Market Terre Alte

Every Saturday morning, in Piazza Marzari in Vigolo Vattaro (Altopiano della Vigolana), the Slow Food "Terre Alte" Earth Market brings together small-scale producers from the Altopiano della Vigolana and the Altipiani Cimbri. Featuring mountain dairy cheeses, seasonal vegetables, honey, preserves, and short-supply-chain bread, this community market celebrates its fifth year in 2026 and moves to the lakes and mountain huts of the Trentino region during the summer.

A community market on the Altopiano della Vigolana

The Slow Food "Terre Alte" Earth Market is your weekly appointment with mountain agriculture on the Altopiano della Vigolana, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Held in Piazza Marzari in Vigolo Vattaro, the heart of the Altopiano della Vigolana municipality, it is much more than a simple agricultural fair: it is a meeting place for farmers, breeders, and producers to connect with those seeking good, clean, and fair food, in line with the philosophy of the international Earth Markets network promoted by the Slow Food Foundation.

Meet the producers

The market highlights small local producers, focusing on short supply chains that are rarely found in large retail outlets. Products you will find at the stalls include:

  • Mountain dairy cheeses and dairy products from the Altipiani Cimbri
  • Seasonal vegetables, including the Porro di Nosellari, a variety listed in the Slow Food Ark of Taste
  • Honey, jams, and preserves
  • Bread, flours, and small baked goods
  • Mountain fruits and berries

Every producer shares their own story, and this direct dialogue is an integral part of the experience: you don't just shop; you learn about seasonality and the true value of mountain agricultural work.

A traveling market between the Vigolana and the Altipiani Cimbri

Established in 2021 from the experience of the "Terre Alte" Solidarity Purchasing Group and supported by the Slow Food Community for the agro-cultural development of the Altipiani Cimbri, the market follows the rhythm of the seasons. In spring and autumn, it is based in Piazza Marzari in Vigolo Vattaro; in summer, the stalls head up to the mountains, reaching tourist spots in the Trentino region such as Lake Lavarone, Malga Millegrobbe, and Serrada, before returning to the valley with the arrival of autumn.

More than just shopping

A rich calendar of cultural and educational initiatives dedicated to conscious eating revolves around the market: in-depth meetings (also hosted by the Lavarone municipal library, for example on the topic of fermented foods), workshops, and moments of reflection on the future of mountain regions. The initiative, supported by the Municipality of Altopiano della Vigolana and the Alpe Cimbra Tourist Board, aims to strengthen the local community and economic fabric while promoting civic and food education.

The "Terre Alte" Earth Market has thus become a small stronghold of the agricultural and cultural identity of the Altopiano della Vigolana and the Altipiani Cimbri, a concrete way to support those who safeguard the landscape and flavors of the Trentino mountains.

Earth Market Terre Alte — edition 2026

The Slow Food "Terre Alte" Earth Market reaches its fifth-year milestone. Starting March 7, 2026, every other Saturday morning (9:30 AM – 1:00 PM), Piazza Marzari in Vigolo Vattaro hosts producers from the Altopiano della Vigolana and Altipiani Cimbri. In summer, the market moves to higher altitudes (Lake Lavarone, Malga Millegrobbe, Serrada) before returning to Vigolo Vattaro in the autumn.

The 2026 edition of the Slow Food "Terre Alte" Earth Market marks the fifth year of the market's activity on the Altopiano della Vigolana. The season opens on Saturday, March 7, 2026, in Piazza Marzari in Vigolo Vattaro, with a new feature: the market will be held every other Saturday morning from March to June, from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM.

At the stalls, you will find small local producers offering mountain dairy cheeses, seasonal vegetables, honey, preserves, and short-supply-chain baked goods. During the summer, the market becomes itinerant, reaching tourist locations in the Altipiani Cimbri (Lake Lavarone, Malga Millegrobbe, Serrada), before returning to Vigolo Vattaro in the autumn months.

The calendar is enriched by in-depth meetings on nutrition — also hosted by the Lavarone municipal library — and cultural events regarding the future of mountain regions. The initiative is promoted by the Slow Food Community for the agro-cultural development of the Altipiani Cimbri, with the support of the Municipality of Altopiano della Vigolana and the Alpe Cimbra Tourist Board.
