The Slow Food "Terre Alte" Earth Market is your weekly appointment with mountain agriculture on the Altopiano della Vigolana, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Held in Piazza Marzari in Vigolo Vattaro, the heart of the Altopiano della Vigolana municipality, it is much more than a simple agricultural fair: it is a meeting place for farmers, breeders, and producers to connect with those seeking good, clean, and fair food, in line with the philosophy of the international Earth Markets network promoted by the Slow Food Foundation.

The market highlights small local producers, focusing on short supply chains that are rarely found in large retail outlets. Products you will find at the stalls include:

• Mountain dairy cheeses and dairy products from the Altipiani Cimbri
• Seasonal vegetables, including the Porro di Nosellari, a variety listed in the Slow Food Ark of Taste
• Honey, jams, and preserves
• Bread, flours, and small baked goods

A traveling market between the Vigolana and the Altipiani Cimbri

Established in 2021 from the experience of the "Terre Alte" Solidarity Purchasing Group and supported by the Slow Food Community for the agro-cultural development of the Altipiani Cimbri, the market follows the rhythm of the seasons. In spring and autumn, it is based in Piazza Marzari in Vigolo Vattaro; in summer, the stalls head up to the mountains, reaching tourist spots in the Trentino region such as Lake Lavarone, Malga Millegrobbe, and Serrada, before returning to the valley with the arrival of autumn.

More than just shopping

A rich calendar of cultural and educational initiatives dedicated to conscious eating revolves around the market: in-depth meetings (also hosted by the Lavarone municipal library, for example on the topic of fermented foods), workshops, and moments of reflection on the future of mountain regions. The initiative, supported by the Municipality of Altopiano della Vigolana and the Alpe Cimbra Tourist Board, aims to strengthen the local community and economic fabric while promoting civic and food education.
