Artisan nativity scenes and ancient crafts within the halls of Castel Toblino
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Valle dei Laghi, nestled between Lake Toblino and the mountains of Trentino, stands Castel Toblino, one of the most photographed castles in the region. During Advent, its historic halls host The Nativity Castle, an exhibition dedicated to the art of the nativity scene, promoted by the Valle dei Laghi Biodistrict Association. The event takes place in the municipality of Madruzzo, in the Province of Trento, and celebrates both the artistic heritage of the castle and the local rural traditions.
The heart of the event lies in the nativity scenes entirely handmade by skilled artisans, featuring works from the International Nativity Museum of Greccio, Val Gardena, and the valleys of Trentino. The castle rooms showcase exquisite Nativity scenes alongside live demonstrations of ancient crafts, telling the story of traditional craftsmanship. The former stables also host an exhibition of local agricultural products, highlighting the bond between the castle and the biodistrict's producers.
The calendar is enriched with events throughout the weekends: Christmas music featuring traditional carols passed down through generations, the arrival of Santa Claus with his sleigh around the Immaculate Conception holiday, and food and wine experiences centered on Vino Santo Trentino, grappa, and chocolate. Wine tastings from the Valle dei Laghi, distillery visits, and grappa-chocolate pairings complete an offer designed for families, nativity scene enthusiasts, and curious visitors.
More than just a Christmas market, The Nativity Castle is a cultural project that weaves together sacred art, folk traditions, and quality agriculture. Local wineries and farms (including local vineyards and agritourisms) join the exhibition path, offering visitors an authentic taste of the Valle dei Laghi identity. The setting of Castel Toblino, with its silhouette reflected on the water, makes the experience particularly evocative during the winter days.
At the moment, the Valle dei Laghi Biodistrict has not yet communicated the official dates for the 2026 edition of The Nativity Castle at Castel Toblino (Municipality of Madruzzo, Trentino). Based on past editions, the event is held on weekends during the Advent period, featuring an exhibition of handmade nativity scenes, demonstrations of traditional crafts, Christmas music, and local food and wine tastings.
The detailed program and opening calendar will be announced on the official channels of the Valle dei Laghi Biodistrict. This page will be updated as soon as the 2026 dates are confirmed.
