About Trento City of Christmas

Nestled among the wooden chalets of Piazza Fiera and Piazza Mostra, Trento transforms every year into the City of Christmas. It is one of the most beloved markets in the Alpine region, featuring local crafts, Trentino flavors, twinkling lights, concerts, and a rich program of events for all ages. From November 20, 2026, to January 6, 2027, the regional capital fills with the scent of mulled wine, strudel, and spices, wrapped in an atmosphere that blends tradition, sustainability, and holiday magic.

Christmas in the heart of Trento

The Trento Christmas Market, the centerpiece of the Trento City of Christmas event, is one of the most famous and appreciated gatherings in the entire Alpine region. Every year, from the second half of November until Epiphany, the historic center of the Trentino-Alto Adige capital dresses up in lights, decorations, and scents that turn its squares into a true Christmas village. The characteristic wooden chalets are spread between Piazza Fiera, at the foot of the ancient medieval walls, and Piazza Mostra, in the heart of the historic center, just a stone's throw from the Buonconsiglio Castle.

Crafts, flavors, and tradition

The market features about 77 chalets managed by exhibitors from across the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Among the stalls, you will find local handicrafts, Christmas decorations, wooden and ceramic trees, glassware, natural cosmetics, warm clothing, and plenty of gift ideas. A large space is dedicated to local gastronomic specialties: alpine cheeses, honey, chocolate, canederli, strudel, the famous tortei de patate, and the cevap from the Mocheni Valley, all accompanied by a good glass of mulled wine or local Trentino wines.

A sustainable Christmas

For years, Trento City of Christmas has been a model of environmentally conscious events: 100% renewable energy, compostable tableware, and FSC-certified materials. Sustainability is not just a detail but a true guiding principle that accompanies the entire event, consistent with the green vocation of the Trentino capital.

More than just a market: a widespread program

Beyond the chalets, the city comes alive with a dense calendar of events spread throughout the streets and squares: concerts, shows, workshops, tastings, and moments designed for families. City museums participate with interactive offerings, animated readings, children's workshops, and educational activities. During the opening days, the lighting of the Christmas Tree draws thousands of people to the center, accompanied by school choirs and the city band. The Christmas train that travels through the center is also a favorite among children, offering the chance to meet Santa Claus and his helpers.

Why visit Trento at Christmas

Nestled among the mountains of Trentino, Trento offers a rare mix of urban elegance, Alpine tradition, and a natural setting at Christmas. Strolling between Piazza Fiera and Piazza Mostra, with the Dolomites as a backdrop and lights reflecting on the frescoed facades of the historic center, is an experience that attracts visitors from all over Italy and abroad every year, making the Municipality of Trento one of Italy's Christmas capitals.
