Livestock, flavors, and traditions in the heart of the Madonie
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
SiciliAlleva is the major livestock and agri-food event that brings the town of Alia, a small village in the Madonie mountains in the province of Palermo, to life every October. Established to explore themes of agricultural, rural, and food development in the region, the exhibition has become a key reference point for breeders, producers, and enthusiasts from across Sicily.
The heart of the event is the livestock show, set up at the Campo Boario in Contrada Borbone: here, visitors can admire the most representative specimens of Sicily's livestock heritage up close. Highlights include the Valle del Belรฌce sheep, native beef cattle breeds, dairy sheep, and the fascinating native Sicilian horse. The exhibitions are accompanied by morphological evaluations, awards for the best animals, and moments dedicated to biodiversity conservation.
SiciliAlleva is about more than just breeding: a rich gastronomic program comes to life along Via Garibaldi and in the town squares. The Quinto Quarto Festival, dedicated to traditional offal dishes, and the local beef festival offer tastings of typical products accompanied by live music. There are also demonstrations of ancient crafts such as wool spinning and traditional basket weaving, as well as milking demonstrations and a traditional farmers' breakfast.
The event dedicates ample space to discussion: conferences and workshops with experts, representatives of trade organizations (Coldiretti, ASSONAPA, Slow Food Sicilia), the University of Palermo, and regional institutions address the challenges and opportunities of Sicilian livestock farming. Completing the picture is the traditional equestrian parade that winds through the streets of Alia, a major draw for the public.
Between the scent of Madonie specialties, the spectacle of the animals on display, and the festive atmosphere that permeates the village, SiciliAlleva represents a unique opportunity to discover the richness of the Alia territory and the rural identity of the Madonie. An event that combines the promotion of the agricultural sector, the enhancement of native breeds, and the genuine pleasure of Sicilian cuisine.
The 2026 edition of SiciliAlleva in Alia, in the province of Palermo, is expected to take place during the usual October period, but as of today, the organizers have not yet released the exact dates or the detailed program.
Based on previous editions, one can expect the livestock show at the Campo Boario in Contrada Borbone featuring native Sicilian breeds (Valle del Belรฌce sheep, beef cattle, native Sicilian horse), food festivals like the Quinto Quarto celebration, conferences with trade organizations, and demonstrations of ancient crafts. The official program will be updated as soon as it is published by the organizers.
Alia is located in the Madonie hinterland, in the province of Palermo. By car, it can be reached from the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway, taking the Caltavuturo-Scillato or Tremonzelli exit, then following the provincial roads towards the town center. The main exhibition area is the Campo Boario in Contrada Borbone.
The event traditionally takes place in October, spanning several days (usually from Friday to Sunday).
Access to the fair and exhibitions is generally free; tastings at the food festivals are paid according to the stands' price lists.
It is recommended to check the updated dates and program on the official channels of the Municipality of Alia and the organizers before traveling.
