The fallow deer meat festival in the heart of the Madonie Park
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
DainoFest is a food, wine, and environmental event held in Petralia Sottana, one of Italy's most beautiful villages nestled in the heart of the High Madonie, in the province of Palermo. The event brings a three-day celebration dedicated to fallow deer meat to the streets of the historic center, showcasing a product that symbolizes a territory that has successfully transformed an environmental issue into an opportunity for sustainable development.
The event stems from the need to manage the excessive presence of fallow deer within the Madonie Park. Thanks to the joint efforts of the Park Authority, local producers, and restaurateurs, what was once an ecological problem has become a resource for the area: fallow deer meat is now featured on the menus of local establishments, telling the story of a new model of mountain management and economy.
Located at an altitude of over one thousand meters, Petralia Sottana is one of the most characteristic towns in inland Sicily and the seat of the Madonie Park Authority. Its historic center, with its stone alleys, churches, and noble palaces, provides a natural backdrop for a festival that blends gastronomy, tradition, and environmental awareness during the particularly evocative Christmas season in the mountains of the Palermo hinterland.
The 2026 edition of DainoFest in Petralia Sottana, in the Madonie Park, does not yet have an official date: at the moment, the organizers have not communicated the calendar or the program. The event, which began in December 2025, is traditionally linked to the Advent period. As soon as they are available, dates, programs, and details regarding fallow deer meat tastings and markets will be updated.

By car from the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway, take the Tre Monzelli or Scillato exit, then follow the SS120 towards the Madonie. The nearest train station is Castellana Sicula-Polizzi on the Palermo-Catania line, which is connected by local buses.
For the updated program and opening hours, we recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality of Petralia Sottana and the Madonie Park Authority. Admission to the event and the markets is free; tastings and fallow deer meat menus are available for purchase at participating establishments.
