Grape and DOC wine tastings in the heart of the Madonie, blending faith and rural tradition
The Grape Festival in Valledolmo, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Palermo nestled in the south-western Madonie mountains, is one of the most anticipated autumn events in the region. Reaching its 34th edition in 2026, the event is held annually on the first weekend of October, coinciding with the festivities in honor of Maria SS. del Rosario, a cult deeply rooted in the town's history.
On the eve of the festival, the Piazza della Chiesa Madre comes alive with stalls and booths. As tradition dictates, visitors can sample local table grapes, must grapes, Contea di Sclafani DOC wines, and numerous local products. Valledolmo boasts a solid agricultural vocation: in addition to viticulture, cultivated mainly in the Castellucci-Miano districts, the town is famous for the siccagno tomato, nicknamed the "red gold of Sicily".
The festival is inseparable from its religious dimension. The event is organized by the Confraternity of Maria SS. del Rosario and is part of the program of festivities that culminate on Sunday. The feast day opens with the announcement of fireworks, continues with the morning Eucharistic celebration and the initiation rite of new confreres, and concludes in the afternoon with the solemn procession of the statue of Our Lady of the Rosary through the town streets, from the Mother Church to the Church of the Holy Souls, amidst fireworks and great popular participation.
The village, which developed from the 17th century according to a grid pattern, houses the Mother Church dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, with its semi-hexagonal staircase completed in 1755, and the Church of the Holy Souls (1645). The Grape Festival is the ideal opportunity to discover this authentic corner of inland Sicily, where wine culture and popular faith have coexisted for generations.
The 34th edition of the Valledolmo Grape Festival will be held on October 4 and 5, 2026. Saturday evening, dedicated to the festival itself, will see the Piazza della Chiesa Madre come alive with the exhibition and tasting of local grape and wine production and musical entertainment. Sunday will be entirely dedicated to the religious festivities for Maria SS. del Rosario, with the procession of the statue through the streets of the town.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including times and evening entertainment guests, will be announced by the Confraternity of the Rosary in the weeks leading up to the event.
