About Settimana del Brodetto

Every year, at the beginning of June, Porto Recanati celebrates its signature dish with the Settimana del Brodetto (Brodetto Week). For seven days, restaurants along the seafront and in the town centre offer the Porto Recanati-style brodetto, the ancient fish soup prepared without tomato and flavoured with Conero saffron, as part of a promotional tasting menu. A journey into the taste and maritime tradition of the Conero Riviera, in the heart of the Province of Macerata.

Porto Recanati's Signature Dish

The Settimana del Brodetto is the most anticipated gastronomic event in Porto Recanati, a seaside town in the Province of Macerata overlooking the Conero Riviera in the Marche region. For an entire week, at the beginning of June, participating restaurants offer the famous brodetto alla portorecanatese as part of a promotional tasting menu, usually around €22, accompanied by local wines.

What is Porto Recanati Brodetto?

The Porto Recanati brodetto is considered the oldest recipe in the Marche region. Unlike the versions from San Benedetto del Tronto, Ancona, and Fano, it is prepared 'in bianco' (white), without tomato. Its unmistakable golden-yellow colour comes from 'zafferanella', the wild saffron that grows on Monte Conero. Originally a humble dish for fishermen to use up unsold fish, it is now a symbol of local identity, protected by the Denominazione Comunale di Origine (De.Co.) designation awarded in 2009.

Tradition and the Brodetto Academy

The recipe's authenticity is preserved and codified by the Accademia del Brodetto e Tipicità (Brodetto and Typical Products Academy), founded by local restaurateurs with the support of the Pro Loco (local tourism board) and the Municipality. During the week, each restaurant interprets the brodetto in its own way, either sticking to the classic version or giving it a contemporary twist. This offers visitors the perfect opportunity to compare different interpretations of the same dish.

From Dish to Spectacle

The week of tastings is usually complemented, at the end of June, by the Brodetto Show in Piazza Brancondi. This event features live show-cooking by the Academy's restaurateurs, tastings with Marche wines, entertainment for children, and guest appearances from the culinary and entertainment worlds. It's the moment when brodetto transforms from a table delicacy into a true public celebration.

An Experience Between Sea and Flavour

Between tastings, the Settimana del Brodetto is also an opportunity to discover Porto Recanati and the Conero Riviera: the seafront promenade, the Swabian Castle, the beaches, and the inland villages of the Macerata area. It's an event that combines seafood cuisine, local identity, and hospitality in one of the most beautiful stretches of the Marche Adriatic coast.

Settimana del Brodetto — edition 2026
