Schiacciata prepared in a thousand ways in Cascine di Buti, featuring Tuscan cuisine, grilled meats, and ballroom dancing
In the municipality of Buti, in the province of Pisa, the village of Cascine di Buti hosts one of the most cherished local festivals every year: the Schiacciata Festival. The event takes place at the Cascine di Buti Sports Field on Via Eroi dello Spazio and stems from the passion of the Contrada La Croce of the Palio di Buti, which has organized it for years with the help of volunteers and local residents.
As the name suggests, the queen of the festival is the schiacciata, a Tuscan flatbread offered here in many versions: stuffed with cold cuts and cheeses, in gourmet styles, or paired with local dishes. At the food stalls, you will also find Tuscan cuisine specialties and grilled meats, with a menu designed to satisfy both adults and children. The stalls open every evening for dinner, generally around 6:00 PM, with lunch also served on the most important festival days.
The festival is not just about food: every evening the dance floor comes alive with free-entry ballroom dancing accompanied by live orchestras, a deep-rooted tradition in Tuscan village festivals. Fridays feature DJ sets, while Saturdays and Sundays are dedicated to live concerts. There is no shortage of moments designed for children, with games and inflatables, and social opportunities that make the festival a meeting point for the entire community.
The event is organized by the Contrada La Croce, one of the groups that bring the Palio di Buti, a historic town tradition, to life. The festival therefore also represents a moment of community life, where the town's identity and team spirit are expressed through hospitality, cooking, and entertainment. For those visiting Tuscany and the Valdera area, it is an authentic opportunity to discover the conviviality of local festivals, far from the major tourist circuits.
Cascine di Buti is located at the foot of Monte Serra, in an area easily accessible from the main towns in the province of Pisa. The sports field has a large parking lot and indoor spaces, allowing visitors to enjoy the festival even in case of bad weather.
The 2026 edition was held in Cascine di Buti on May 28-29 and from June 1 to 5, at the village's Sports Field. The Contrada La Croce presented the proven festival formula: stuffed and gourmet schiacciate, Tuscan cuisine, and grilled meats at the food stalls, which were open every evening for dinner.
The evenings alternated between free-entry ballroom dancing, Friday DJ sets, and live concerts on the weekend, with areas dedicated to families and children.
The detailed musical program for the 2026 edition (ballroom orchestras, DJ sets, and concerts) was not published in full on online sources.
