About Vecchiano Summer Festival

The Vecchiano Summer Festival is the calendar of events that brings the Municipality of Vecchiano, in the province of Pisa, to life from July through September. Culture, open-air cinema, performances, music, dance, and folk traditions fill the town squares and surrounding hamlets, all with free admission. The festival weaves together major guests from the Italian theater scene with local community initiatives, ranging from Argentine tango under the stars to the Summer Carnival, starting with the deeply felt local Palio.

A season of events in the heart of Tuscany

The Vecchiano Summer Festival is the summer program organized by the Municipality of Vecchiano, a town in the Province of Pisa nestled at the foot of the Monte Pisano, just a short distance from the coast and the Migliarino San Rossore Massaciuccoli Park. Every year, from July to September, the squares of the main town and its hamlets (Vecchiano, Nodica, Migliarino, Filettole) are filled with cultural appointments, shows, and festive moments, all strictly with free admission.

A varied program

The strength of the Vecchiano Summer Festival lies in the variety of its offerings, which successfully combine big names from the Italian theater scene with the energy of local associations. Over the years, the festival has hosted events that have now become tradition:

  • Milonga Vecchianese under the stars: an Argentine tango evening in Piazza Pasolini, featuring free lessons at the start of the night and performances by professional dancers, organized by the Proloco Vecchianese and the International Tango Academy.
  • Cinema under the stars: a series of open-air film screenings in the Civic Tower Garden, produced in collaboration with Alfea Cinematografica and the Cineclub Arsenale of Pisa.
  • White Dinner: the convivial gathering in Piazza Pasolini, where participants dress in white and bring their own set tables, organized by the ProLoco of Vecchiano.
  • Great theater guests: in recent editions, the square has hosted notable performances such as Lella Costa's "Women of Tuscany on Tour".
  • Summer Carnival: the celebration with floats, confetti, and masks that brings the spirit of the Vecchiano Carnival to Piazza Garibaldi in the heart of summer, organized by the Carnival Committee and the Palio Committee.

The Palio Rionale, the soul of the community

The Vecchiano summer traditionally opens with the Palio Rionale Vecchianese, a competition between the four historic districts — Vecchiano Centro, Vecchianello all'Estero, San Frediano, and Fornace Castello — consisting of games, sports, colors, and solidarity. A highly popular event that, with its inaugural pageant, trials, and grand finale, ignites local pride and officially kicks off the season of events.

Between Monte Pisano, river, and sea

Experiencing the Vecchiano Summer Festival also means discovering a territory with a strong Tuscan identity: the village at the foot of the Monte Pisano, the pine forests and wetlands of the San Rossore Park, the Serchio river, and the proximity to Pisa and the Tyrrhenian coast. An ideal setting for those seeking authentic events far from the crowds, in the spirit of the hospitality and traditions of the Vecchiano community.
