Sagra del Formaggio di Fagnigola

A festival that has smelled of cheese for half a century

In Fagnigola, a small hamlet in the municipality of Azzano Decimo in the province of Pordenone, there is an event that has taken place every June for over fifty years: the Sagra del Formaggio. Born in the seventies from the initiative of the local community and the Pro Loco San Michele Arcangelo, it has become one of the longest-running festivals in the Bassa pordenonese, attracting visitors from all over western Friuli and eastern Veneto.

Flavours of tradition

The common thread, as the name suggests, is cheese: from soft to aged varieties, presented and tasted with local wines. But the food stall cuisine goes much further, with barbecues, ribs, cutlets, cod, fried fish, and traditional Friulian peasant dishes. Under the covered marquee, people eat, drink, and dance until late at night.

Music, engines, and community

The evenings are enlivened by the typical 'liscio' dance orchestras of Friulian festivals, by youth nights with DJ sets, dance performances, and entertainment for all ages. During the day, there is space for vintage car and motorcycle rallies, tractor gatherings, and card and football tournaments: a program that makes Fagnigola, for ten days, the beating heart of the village's social life.

A piece of local identity

Organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Azzano Decimo, the Sagra del Formaggio is much more than a gastronomic event: it is the moment when the hamlet of Fagnigola celebrates its community spirit, passing down a tradition that has spanned generations from year to year.
