The traveling dinner of the Night of San Lorenzo in the village of Rivalto
In the heart of the Tuscan summer, on the evening of August 10th, the village of Rivalto—a small hamlet in the municipality of Chianni, in the province of Pisa—lights up its streets for Rivalto in Festa. This traveling dinner winds through the village, timed to coincide with the night of San Lorenzo, the night of the shooting stars. Visitors stroll among the stone houses, stopping at various stations to sample traditional peasant dishes while the clear sky of the Pisan hills offers the spectacle of the Perseids.
The true heart of the festival is the table. Along the village streets, stands managed by volunteers offer the specialties of traditional Tuscan "cucina povera": penne with wild boar ragù, grilled sausages and sausage sandwiches, Tuscan soup, bread and tomatoes, fried polenta, Tuscan-style fried foods, and typical homemade desserts. Everything is paired with local red wine and, in some editions, an aperitif in the cellar. It is a widespread dinner that invites you to discover every corner of Rivalto, with curated decorations and a convivial atmosphere.
Beyond the gastronomy, the evening features live music and DJ sets, dancing, and street entertainment. There is also a focus on local culture: decorations featuring embroidery, tools, and objects from the peasant tradition, along with an exhibition of local handicrafts that tells the story of trades from the past. Stargazing completes the experience, giving the night of San Lorenzo in Rivalto a truly unique charm.
Established in 2007, Rivalto in Festa is organized by the Amici di Rivalto Association together with the Pro Loco of Chianni APS, with the support of local entities such as the Misericordia of Chianni and the Wild Boar Festival Association, and under the patronage of the Municipality of Chianni. The event is part of the rich Summer in Chianni calendar, which brings the village to life from June to August with guided tours, evening markets, the Lyric Festival, and the village feast. An authentic appointment, far from mass tourism, to discover the most genuine Tuscany of the Pisan hills.
The 2026 edition of Rivalto in Festa is confirmed for Monday, August 10, 2026, as part of the Summer in Chianni calendar (from June 19 to August 30, 2026). As per tradition, the festival will take place starting at 8:00 PM in Piazza Antonio Gramsci and along the streets of the village of Rivalto, a hamlet of Chianni.
The detailed program and any registration for the dinner will be announced by the Pro Loco of Chianni in the weeks leading up to the event. The formula remains the established one: a traveling dinner with specialties of Tuscan peasant cuisine, local wine, music, shows, and observation of the San Lorenzo shooting stars.
