A celebration of fresh ricotta and the flavors of the Nisseno hinterland in Marianopoli
The Ricotta and Local Products Festival is one of the most beloved events in Marianopoli, a small town in the hinterland of the Caltanissetta province, in the heart of Sicily. Established in 1993, the event has become a staple of the local winter festival calendar, celebrating over twenty-five editions and serving as a benchmark for promoting local dairy production.
The heart of the festival is fresh ricotta, produced according to ancient local pastoral techniques. In Piazza Garibaldi, specially set up for the occasion, officials and volunteers assemble the equipment needed to transform milk into ricotta. Visitors can watch the curdling process live and enjoy warm, freshly made ricottaโone of the most authentic experiences the village has to offer.
Alongside the ricotta, the festival offers a rich assortment of local products from the traditional Marianopoli farming culture:
The festival is part of Marianopoli's Christmas program, which includes markets, concerts in the Mother Church, and nativity scenes. The atmosphere is that of a joyful, familiar Sicilian village feast, attracting many visitors from neighboring towns in the hinterland. The event is also a perfect opportunity to discover Marianopoli and its significant historical and archaeological sites.
In June 2026, the Sicilian Region officially included the Ricotta Festival in the 2026/2027 Regional Calendar of Major Events (D.A. 1554-S6 of June 3, 2026), a recognition that rewards the organizers' hard work and aims to strengthen the tourist appeal of this small town in the Caltanissetta area.
The Ricotta and Local Products Festival will return to Marianopoli during the 2026 Christmas season. The confirmation comes with an important recognition: with decree D.A. 1554-S6 of June 3, 2026, the Sicilian Region included the festival in the 2026/2027 Regional Calendar of Major Events, a source of satisfaction, as stated by Mayor Salvatore Noto, for all organizers and volunteers.
The event will follow the formula consolidated over the years: in Piazza Garibaldi, next to the nativity scene, with live demonstrations of the milk-to-ricotta transformation process, fresh ricotta tastings, and local culinary specialties.
The exact date and detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been published. They will be announced by the municipal administration closer to the Christmas holidays.
The festival takes place in Piazza Garibaldi, in the center of Marianopoli (CL), next to the nativity scene set up for the holidays.
Marianopoli can be reached by car from the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (exits toward the Nisseno hinterland) and the SS 122 road. The reference railway station is Caltanissetta, from where you can continue by car to the village.
The event is traditionally held during the Christmas season, between late December and early January.
Admission is free, and tastings of fresh ricotta are offered for free by the organizers.
