Summer Friday evenings in the heart of San Leonardo in Passiria
The Psairer Fraitige — literally "Passeier Fridays" in the local South Tyrolean dialect — are a series of summer evenings that bring the center of San Leonardo in Passiria (St. Leonhard in Passeier) to life, nestled in the heart of the Passeier Valley, in the province of Bolzano (South Tyrol). Every Friday, from mid-July to the end of August, the village transforms into a vibrant open-air lounge where music, shopping, crafts, and gastronomy blend together until late at night.
The format follows the lange Einkaufsabende tradition, or extended shopping evenings: shops remain open from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, bands play until midnight, and local associations and food stalls serve drinks and snacks until 12:30 AM. Along the streets of the center, stalls and booths showcase the valley's craftsmanship and offer traditional South Tyrolean dishes. There are plenty of games and attractions for children, making the event perfect for the whole family.
What sets the Psairer Fraitige apart is that every Friday has its own theme and a headline musical act, with various bands alternating between traditional tunes and original songs. The program covers culture and crafts, sports and games, family, and a special evening dedicated to gastronomy, featuring the traditional gala dinner set up on the village bridge. The series concludes with a final Friday that brings the entire community together.
Organized by the Passeier Valley Tourist Board in collaboration with local merchants and associations, the Psairer Fraitige were created to promote local commerce and community life in the Municipality of San Leonardo in Passiria. Over time, they have become a staple of the Passeier summer, attracting both valley residents and visitors from the Merano area looking for an authentic atmosphere, far from the crowds.
The Passeier Valley is the valley that rises from Merano towards the Timmelsjoch and Jaufen Pass, the birthplace of the Tyrolean hero Andreas Hofer. San Leonardo is its main hub: a mountain village where farming traditions, the South Tyrolean dialect, and alpine hospitality coexist. Attending the Psairer Fraitige is a wonderful way to discover this corner of South Tyrol in a convivial, evening setting.
In 2026, the Psairer Fraitige return with six Friday evenings: July 19 and 26, and August 2, 9, 16, and 23. The opening on July 19 is scheduled at the Fischerteich Sandwirt pond with music by the Santoni Family & The Blokes. This is followed by the evening dedicated to culture and crafts (July 26), the sports and games night (August 2), and the gastronomy evening (August 9) with the gala dinner on the village bridge. The series concludes on August 23 with the final event that brings the village together. Every Friday, shops remain open from 8:00 PM, bands play until midnight, and food stalls serve until 12:30 AM.
