The spring mushroom festival of the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines
The Prugnolo Mushroom Festival is one of the most cherished spring gastronomic events in Bagno di Romagna, a thermal village in the upper Savio valley in the Province of Forlì-Cesena, in Emilia-Romagna. Organized by the Pro Loco of Bagno di Romagna, the event dedicates an entire day to the prugnolo, the quintessential spring mushroom, flavorful and fragrant, which grows in the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines between April and May.
Appreciated by chefs and gourmets throughout Italy for its delicate and unmistakable aroma, the prugnolo becomes the common thread of a village festival where tradition, flavors, and conviviality intertwine along the streets of the historic center.
The heart of the festival is the food stall, where the prugnolo is offered in the most typical recipes of local cuisine. Among the dishes that have livened up the latest editions are the potato and prugnolo tortelletti and the famous tortelli alla lastra, a specialty of the Romagnolo Apennines cooked on a stone. The mushroom also accompanies first courses, main courses, and side dishes, telling the story of the forest's culture and the gastronomic wisdom of this land.
In addition to food, the day is enriched by a market with stalls along the village streets, live music to accompany the entire day, and workshops for children and families. The setting is the intimate and welcoming atmosphere of the village, which the Touring Club Italiano has awarded the Orange Flag.
Visiting the Prugnolo Mushroom Festival is also an opportunity to discover Bagno di Romagna, a renowned thermal resort nestled in the woods of the Casentinesi Forests National Park. Thermal waters, trails, ancient crafts, and genuine cuisine make this municipality in the upper Savio valley an ideal destination for a spring weekend dedicated to nature and good food.
