Autunno Selvapianese

An autumn tradition lasting almost eighty years

Autunno Selvapianese is one of the longest-running food and wine events in the Romagna Apennines. It all began with the Chestnut Festival, whose first edition dates back to 1947, organized by a group of ex-servicemen as a thank you for returning to peacetime after World War II. Over the years, the event has grown to cover the entire month of October: in 1971 the Ottobre Selvapianese Tourist Cultural Committee was founded, while the Pro Loco Selvapiana, still the driving force behind the event today, was established in 1991.

Four Sundays, four festivals

Every Sunday in October, the small hamlet of Selvapiana, in the Municipality of Bagno di Romagna, offers an event dedicated to a typical seasonal product:

• Pistolesa Festival — opens the review with traditional local cuisine dishes;
• Chestnut Festival — the historic heart of the event, with roasted chestnuts, chestnut cake, and chestnut desserts from the Apennines;
• Mushroom and Truffle Festival — porcini mushrooms and truffles harvested in the woods of the Casentinesi Forests are the stars;
• Wild Boar Festival — closes October with game specialties cooked according to local recipes.

Atmosphere and program

On each day, food stalls and lunch at the Pro Loco headquarters offer a menu based on typical seasonal local products — chestnuts, mushrooms, truffles, and wild boar. In the afternoon, the village comes alive with entertainment shows for adults and children, live music, and stalls selling typical local products. The venue, housed in renovated old school buildings and expanded with a large covered structure, can accommodate about a hundred seated guests.

Selvapiana and the Casentinesi Forests

Selvapiana is a mountain hamlet in the Municipality of Bagno di Romagna, at the gates of the Casentinesi Forests, Monte Falterona, and Campigna National Park, in Emilia-Romagna. The review is the ideal opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Tuscan-Romagnol Apennines, amidst chestnut groves, trails, and the hospitality of a community that has preserved these gastronomic traditions for generations.
