The grand traditional late-summer festival in Reggello, in the Florentine Valdarno
The Palio dei Campanili and the Festa del Perdono represent the most anticipated event of the year for Reggello, a town in the Metropolitan City of Florence overlooking the Pratomagno slopes in the heart of the Florentine Valdarno. The event takes place every September, marking the end of the summer season and drawing residents and visitors from across the Tuscan province.
For five days, the historic center, with its Piazza Aldo Moro and surrounding streets, becomes the stage for a grand, free-entry popular festival, organized by the Pro Loco Reggello e Cascia in collaboration with local associations.
The heart of the festival is the Palio dei Campanili, the district challenge that gives the event its name. Teams representing the various local bell towers compete in a relay race that ignites local pride. It is the most heartfelt moment of the festival, where the tradition of local rivalry turns into healthy competition and a collective gathering.
Beyond the district challenge, the Festa del Perdono offers a rich and varied program throughout the days:
The Festa del Perdono is much more than just an event: it is a collective ritual that strengthens the bond between the hamlets of Reggello and celebrates the identity of a territory nestled between the Pratomagno hills and the Arno river. The formula combining tradition, popular sport, good food, and fun makes it one of the most vibrant town festivals in the Florentine Valdarno, engaging all generations every year.
Admission to the event is free; some activities, such as the funfair rides, require a small symbolic fee.
The Palio dei Campanili and the Festa del Perdono return to Reggello from September 12th to 16th, 2026, confirming the historic mid-September dates. The event, organized by the Pro Loco Reggello e Cascia, will feature the district challenge in the Palio dei Campanili along with food stalls, exhibitions, shows, music, a funfair, and the concluding fireworks display.
The complete calendar of events, with times and locations for individual activities, will be announced by the organizers in the weeks preceding the festival. For updates, please contact the Pro Loco Reggello e Cascia.
Reggello can be reached by car via the A1 motorway, taking the Incisa-Reggello exit and continuing towards the town center. By train, the reference station is Sant'Ellero (Florence-Arezzo line), which is connected to the center by local buses.
Admission to the festival is free. Events are concentrated in the afternoon and evening; the funfair offers rides at a symbolic price for children.
