Two autumn Sundays dedicated to the king of the Romagna undergrowth
In the heart of autumn, when the woods of the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines offer their most precious treasures, the village of Dovadola celebrates the absolute protagonist of the season: the truffle. The Truffle Fair and Festival is one of the oldest and most cherished events in the entire province of Forlì-Cesena, in Emilia-Romagna, and each year it attracts thousands of visitors from Forlì, Romagna, and neighboring regions.
For two Sundays in October, the streets and squares of the historic center of this small municipality in the Montone Valley come alive with the truffle market, stalls of agricultural producers, artisan and local product stands, and large restaurant tents where you can dine sheltered from the weather.
Dovadola is located in an area particularly suited for truffle hunting: the woods surrounding the village, along the hills rising towards the Apennines, are ideal ground for the prized white truffle and other local varieties. This is why the fair was created precisely to promote this product and, with it, the entire range of Romagnolo autumn flavors: mushrooms, honey, cheeses, wines, and local cured meats.
The highlight of each edition is the award ceremony for the best truffles: every Sunday, at 11:00 AM in Piazza Marconi, a special jury evaluates the specimens brought by the truffle hunters and awards the most beautiful ones, in a ritual that combines friendly competition, local pride, and passion for the hunt.
The gastronomic heart of the festival is the tagliatelle strictly handmade by the pasta makers, served naturally with truffle or ragù. Alongside them, the stands offer the best of traditional Romagnolo cuisine: polenta, crostini, fried eggs, panzerotti, grilled sausages, grilled meats, Romagnolo piadina, and fried piadina, all accompanied by local wines.
The event, carefully organized by the Pro Loco of Dovadola, is not just about gastronomy: the historic center fills with market stalls selling food products, clothing, accessories, and household items, while a dedicated play area welcomes children. In recent years, the organization has also focused on sustainability, using disposable tableware made from compostable and biodegradable materials.
Strolling through Dovadola during these days means discovering an authentic Romagna village, with its castle, abbey, and the quiet atmosphere of Apennine towns, in the full colors and scents of autumn.
The 2026 edition of the Dovadola Truffle Fair and Festival will be held on two Sundays in October: Sunday, October 11th, and Sunday, October 18th, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The dates are confirmed by the official fair registry of the Emilia-Romagna Region, which assigns the event 89 total spots (76 mixed and 13 reserved for agricultural producers) in the town center.
As tradition dictates, the heart of the day will be the truffle market, the gastronomic stands with handmade tagliatelle, and the award ceremony for the best specimens in Piazza Marconi.
The streets and squares of Dovadola's historic center will come alive from the morning, with the event in full swing between 11:30 AM and 7:00 PM.
