The autumn festival celebrating pears and the traditional torta de peri in Vattaro
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Pear Festival is one of the most beloved gastronomic events of the Trentino autumn. It takes place in the historic center of Vattaro, a village in the municipality of Altopiano della Vigolana, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige region). Organized by the Pro Loco of Vattaro in collaboration with the Alpine Group, the Volunteer Fire Department, and the local Oratory, the festival was created to revive an ancient tradition linked to the religious feast of Our Lady of the Rosary and to showcase the old pear varieties grown on the plateau.
The absolute star is the torta de peri, a traditional pear-based dessert that was once prepared for the feasts of Our Lady of the Rosary and Saint Martin. During the event, these cakes are freshly baked and sold in the village streets, alongside other pear-based delicacies. A dedicated exhibition displays the numerous local pear varieties, drawing visitors' attention to a rural heritage at risk of disappearing.
The historic center of Vattaro fills with stalls: a rich market hosts artisans, local producers, and hobbyists, offering typical products from the Vigolana and Valsugana areas. For children, there are creative workshops and the Pompieropoli initiative, which allows kids to become firefighters for a day thanks to the Vattaro Volunteer Fire Department. There is no shortage of guided tastings (by reservation) and live music, with folk and rock bands providing the soundtrack to the day.
The festival is generally held on a Saturday in early October, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Admission is free; only some specific tastings require a reservation. The event is an excellent opportunity to discover the Vigolana Plateau, its flavors, and its traditions in an autumnal setting.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Vattaro Pear Festival have not yet been published. Based on previous editions, the festival is usually held on a day in early October in the historic center of Vattaro, a village on the Vigolana Plateau. A market of producers and hobbyists, the sale of torta de peri, workshops and entertainment for children, and live music are expected. We recommend checking for updated information with the Pro Loco of Vattaro and the Alpe Cimbra Tourist Board.
