Nativity scenes, open courtyards, and Advent traditions in the heart of Vallagarina
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Christmas in Pomarolo is the series of festive events that the Municipality of Pomarolo, together with local associations, organizes every year to guide the community through the entire Advent period, from the beginning of December until the Epiphany. The small town of Vallagarina, nestled along the Adige River just a few kilometers from Rovereto in the Autonomous Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), transforms into a widespread nativity scene where the courtyards, arcades, windows, and fountains of the historic center become the setting for curated displays and activities designed for both adults and children.
Pomarolo is part of the "I Paesi dei Presepi" (Village of Nativity Scenes) circuit, which connects villages such as Avio, Mori, Nogaredo, Villa Lagarina, and Pomarolo along the Vallagarina valley. Strolling through the streets of the center, you can discover numerous nativity scenes made with natural and recycled materials, displayed in windows and the most picturesque corners of the village. These representations of the Nativity remain visible for weeks, turning a walk among the houses into an open-air artistic trail.
The heart of the event is the opening of the doors to the ancient houses of the historic center: in the courtyards, you will find stalls selling handicrafts and local products, where you can taste traditional dishes, roasted chestnuts, sweets, and hot drinks. There is also a Christmas village for children, featuring roaming entertainment, workshops, and family activities. Concerts are held at the Teatro Concordia, which hosts musical events dedicated to the festive atmosphere.
The festival preserves some typical Trentino customs: the feast of Saint Lucy, deeply felt in the valley's villages, and the Beganate, the traditional processions and carols that enliven the village streets. These moments reflect the identity of the Pomarolo community and its participation in the broader Christmas in Vallagarina calendar, which every December involves dozens of locations between Rovereto and the lower valley.
Admission to all events is free. The festival is designed as an opportunity to experience the magic of the holidays together, enhance the historic center, and support the work of the volunteer associations that, together with the Municipality of Pomarolo, bring the program to life. An authentic village event, ideal for those who want to discover the Trentino Christmas away from the large crowds.
The 2026 edition of Christmas in Pomarolo has not yet been announced by the Municipality. Based on previous editions, the festival is expected to take place during the Advent period, roughly from December until the Epiphany, featuring nativity scenes set up in the historic center, the opening of doors with stalls and local products, a Christmas village for children, and Trentino traditions such as the Beganate and Saint Lucy. The official dates and program will be communicated by the Municipality of Pomarolo via the usual flyer.
