An evening dedicated to the ancient flavors and traditions of San Cataldo
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Pani e Cumpanaggiu is the summer event that the Municipality of San Cataldo, in the province of Caltanissetta, dedicates to the rediscovery of local gastronomic traditions. The name itself, in the Sicilian dialect, refers to bread and accompanimentโeverything that goes with bread: a simple yet powerful image of popular conviviality and the culture of shared food. The event takes place on Via Babbaurra, one of the most characteristic streets in the town center, which transforms for one evening into a journey of taste, music, and entertainment.
The heart of the evening is the promotion of a precious culinary heritage, consisting of recipes passed down from generation to generation. The absolute stars are the ancient sweets of San Cataldo: Cavatuni, 'Ngiambella, and Ciuri di Sicilia, specialties that tell the confectionery history of the town and are introduced to the public through tastings and show cooking sessions led by schools and master chefs. The initiative also aims to provide visibility to local producers, artisans, and associations, who are traditionally involved with free promotional stalls along the street.
Pani e Cumpanaggiu is not just a food festival: the evening combines the culinary experience with a rich entertainment program, featuring singing performances by young students from local academies and comedy shows starring Sicilian artists beloved by the public. This cross-generational formula makes the event suitable for families, young people, and visitors, in the festive atmosphere typical of the warm summer nights in the Nisseno area.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco of San Cataldo, with the patronage of the municipal administration and the collaboration of local associations. Established in 2023, the festival has quickly become one of the most cherished events of the San Cataldo summer, capable of intertwining local promotion, cultural identity, and social connection. For those visiting inland Sicily, it is an authentic opportunity to discover the flavors and traditions of a village in the province of Caltanissetta.
The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: the event is usually held in July.
