The food and wine festival celebrating the local products of Butera, the kingdom of pasta with honey
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Butera a Tavola is the premier food and wine festival in the municipality of Butera, a hilltop village in the province of Caltanissetta, in the heart of Sicily. Every autumn, the event draws thousands of visitors to the historic center, where the town's squares and alleys come alive with food stalls, tastings, and entertainment. The event is organized by Pro Loco Butera with the patronage of the municipal administration and has established itself over the years as one of the most anticipated dates on the festival calendar in south-central Sicily.
The festival's signature dish is pasta with honey (known in the local dialect as "pasta cรข meli"), a specialty with presumed Arab origins tied to the Butera tradition. It consists of spaghetti tossed with honey, toasted almonds, breadcrumbs, orange peel, and a pinch of cinnamon: a sweet and sour dish once prepared for special occasions like the Feast of Saint Joseph and Good Friday. Alongside it, the stalls offer the best of the region: local cheeses, wine, olive oil, almonds, and cured meats, offering a true journey through the flavors of the Sicilian peasant tradition.
Beyond the culinary delights, Butera a Tavola offers a rich entertainment program: live concerts, street performances, sensory trails, exhibitions, and open-air art displays. There is no shortage of activities for the little ones, with creative workshops, bouncy castles, and entertainment. The musical evenings take place in the town squares and attract a large audience, thanks to the completely free admission.
The festival is also an opportunity to discover Butera, an ancient town that overlooks the Gela plain and the Mediterranean from above. During the event, visitors can stroll among the town's churches and admire the medieval castle, a testament to the village's Norman and Swabian past. The autumnal atmosphere, the scents of traditional cooking, and the warmth of the local community make Butera a Tavola an authentic experience for those who want to discover the most genuine side of Sicily.
Admission to the event is free. To facilitate visitor access, a free shuttle service is usually provided from the external parking areas to the historic center. The festival is traditionally held between late September and early October.
The dates for the 2026 edition of Butera a Tavola have not yet been announced. Pro Loco Butera has communicated that the 2026 program will be published soon. Based on the tradition of recent editions, the event is expected to take place in the autumn, between late September and early October, in the historic center of the municipality of Butera (Caltanissetta).
For 2026, the usual format is expected: food and wine stalls dedicated to local products, pasta with honey as the signature dish, sensory trails, concerts, street performances, and activities for families and children, with free admission.
By car: Butera is accessible via the SS117bis and SS115 roads, located between Gela and Caltanissetta. The nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa (approx. 120 km). The reference railway station is Gela.
Free admission to the entire event. During the festival, a free shuttle service is usually active from the external parking areas (cemetery area and Piazza Sicilia) to the historic center.
