The Racalmuto fuazza festival, the ancestor of pizza, in Racalmuto
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Fuazza Fest is the event that brings the town of Racalmuto, in the hinterland of the Agrigento province in Sicily, to life every autumn. At the heart of the festival is the fuazza racalmutese, an ancient durum wheat focaccia that local tradition considers an ancestor of pizza: a disc of leavened dough topped with tomato, anchovies, black olives, garlic, pecorino, and oregano, baked to perfection and served hot. A full program of tastings, shows, and family activities revolves around this signature product.
For the duration of the event, Viale Hamilton is transformed into a large open-air gastronomic village. The stalls offer the chance to sample the fuazza in its classic version and in numerous creative variations, alongside a rich selection of Sicilian street food, typical products from the Agrigento area, and baked specialties. There is also no shortage of handicrafts, hobbyists, and an Organic Fair with a short supply chain, dedicated to seasonal organic products and guided tastings.
Fuazza Fest is not just about gastronomy. The program alternates between live music, entertainment, and cabaret moments, with acrobatic pizza performances by the pizzaiolos of the Italian National Acrobatic Team. In the spaces dedicated to food storytelling, there are show-cooking sessions, workshops, and meetings with journalists and experts to discover the history and techniques of one of the most beloved symbols of popular cuisine.
Ample space is reserved for families, with a kids' area featuring a funfair, rides, inflatables, and educational workshops on food and local traditions. The free-entry format and the festive atmosphere make the event a meeting point for the inhabitants of Racalmuto and visitors arriving from neighboring towns.
The setting is Racalmuto, a hillside town known for being the birthplace of the writer Leonardo Sciascia. Visiting the town during Fuazza Fest means combining a culinary discovery with a stroll through the streets of the historic center, among churches, squares, and glimpses of inland Sicily. The event is organized by the Food and Beverage association with the patronage of the Municipality of Racalmuto.
The dates for the 2026 edition of the Fuazza Fest have not yet been officially announced. The Food and Beverage association, which organizes the event, has anticipated that the 2026 program will be published soon. Pending the official announcement, the festival is expected to confirm its autumn timing and the usual formula dedicated to the fuazza racalmutese, Sicilian street food, and family entertainment on Viale Hamilton, in Racalmuto.
