Live music and Gargano-style pettole in Piazza Pertini, Peschici
The Notes and Pettole Festival is one of the most authentic spring events in Peschici, a stunning white-washed village overlooking the Gargano sea in the Province of Foggia. As the name suggests, the event weaves together two local passions: the notes, or live music filling the squares, and the pettole, the famous fried dough balls that are a staple of Apulian and Gargano popular cuisine.
Pettole are small fritters made from a soft dough of flour, water, and yeast, fried on the spot and served piping hot. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, they are prepared in plain sight by the expert hands of local housewives and volunteers, filling the air with the unmistakable aroma of hot oil. It is simple, convivial food to enjoy while strolling among the stalls, a symbol of the rural and maritime tradition that Peschici proudly preserves.
The heart of the evening is Piazza Sandro Pertini, where the stage hosts local musicians and the group Bella Fè, accompanying the tasting with traditional folk songs and melodies that invite you to stop and dance. The atmosphere is that of a classic village fair: families, tourists, and residents mingle in a free, open-air celebration where the pleasure of food meets the joy of live music.
The Notes and Pettole Festival is not an isolated event: it is part of «Benedetta Primavera», the rich program of events promoted by the Municipality of Peschici in synergy with local schools, associations, parishes, and community groups. The initiative, which spans three months from March to June, aims to de-seasonalize tourism in the Gargano, bringing the village to life outside the summer season and strengthening the community's social fabric through culture, sports, tradition, and food and wine.
Those visiting the Gargano in spring will find the Notes and Pettole Festival the perfect opportunity to discover the authentic face of Peschici, far from the summer crowds and fully immersed in the flavors and sounds of its people.
