Two Sundays in October dedicated to the white truffle in the heart of the Asti Monferrato
The National White Truffle Fair of Montiglio Monferrato is a major autumn festival that celebrates the prized white truffle in the heart of the Monferrato region every year. It takes place in the historic center of Montiglio Monferrato, in the province of Asti, nestled in the UNESCO World Heritage hills of Piedmont. It is traditionally held on the first two Sundays of October, during the peak ripening season of the prized white truffle (Tuber magnatum Pico).
The heart of the fair is the white truffle market, set up in Piazza Regina Margherita, where local trifolao (truffle hunters) display their finds under the supervision of expert commissioners responsible for quality selection and certification. Alongside the truffles, over a hundred exhibitors showcase regional excellence: Tonda Gentile hazelnuts, honey, DOC and DOCG Monferrato wines, grappa, cheeses, and traditional Asti peasant products.
The food stand run by the Pro Loco and local operators offers the chance to taste Piedmontese dishes enhanced by truffles. The fair offers two dining options: a covered pavilion with à la carte truffle dishes and a multi-purpose hall with a full menu available by reservation. There are also live cooking demonstrations, guided tastings, and wine pairings, as well as cultural meetings focused on the search for and promotion of truffles.
With an attendance exceeding 15,000 visitors, the National White Truffle Fair of Montiglio Monferrato is now one of the most iconic events in the Monferrato truffle fair circuit. It is an ideal day to discover a charming village dominated by its castle and to fully experience the food and wine culture of the Piedmontese autumn. Admission to the fair is free.
The National White Truffle Fair of Montiglio Monferrato returns in 2026 on its traditional dates, Sunday, October 4 and Sunday, October 11. Once again this year, the historic center of the town in the province of Asti will host the prized white truffle market with local trifolao, over a hundred exhibitors of typical Monferrato products, a food stand, guided tastings, and live cooking demonstrations.
The events that have characterized the festival for years are confirmed: the truffle hunters' gathering, demonstrations with truffle dogs, the vintage car parade, and the arrival of the historic train from Turin and Asti. The complete program, including times and events, will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the fair. Free admission.
By car: Montiglio Monferrato can be reached via the A21 (Asti Est exit) or the SS458 from Chivasso; during the fair, large parking areas are available in the MontExpo zone with a free shuttle service. By train: on the days of the fair, a historic train arrives from the stations of Turin and Asti.
The first two Sundays of October, from approximately 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Free admission to the fair and market. Tastings and truffle dishes are available for purchase; the full menu in the multi-purpose hall is available by reservation.
