The organic apiary in Cunico opens its doors to the public in the heart of the Asti Monferrato
In the small town of Cunico, nestled in the Monferrato hills in the Province of Asti, the Apicoltura Vallera farm, led by Davide Bosio, opens its doors to the public as part of Mielerie Aperte, the national initiative that turns Italian beekeeping farms into centers of discovery and connection every year. This is not a traditional festival, but an open-house event designed to introduce both adults and children to the world of bees and honey production.
Mielerie Aperte is a project promoted and managed by UNAAPI (National Union of Italian Beekeepers' Associations), co-funded by the European Union and the MASAF. Across Italy, over two hundred apiaries open on the same day to raise awareness about the beekeeper's craft and the importance of bees for the environment and biodiversity. In Cunico, the event is hosted by Apicoltura Vallera, one of the most well-known producers in the Asti region, which has participated for years alongside other local farms in areas like Camerano Casasco, Nizza Monferrato, and Mombaruzzo.
The Vallera farm, located at Località Vallera sul Bricco 8, produces organic honey using artisanal techniques that respect the bees' life cycle. Seven varieties are produced in the honey house: acacia, wildflower, forest honeydew, chestnut, linden, rhododendron, and dandelion. During the open day, the public can visit the extraction laboratory, see the various processing stages, and taste local honeys along with other hive products—pollen, royal jelly, propolis, and beeswax.
The apiaries participating in the project offer immersive experiences suitable for all ages: guided tours, educational workshops for children and adults, insights into the life of bees, and guided tastings. It is a direct and practical way to understand where the honey on our tables comes from and to support beekeeping that is attentive to the Monferrato and Piedmont landscape.
The 2026 edition of Mielerie Aperte includes two national events: Sunday, May 17 for spring and Sunday, November 15 for autumn. Apicoltura Vallera in Cunico is among the participating Asti farms, as confirmed by local press and the official initiative portal.
During these open days, the public can visit the laboratory, witness honey processing, and taste the organic varieties produced on-site (acacia, wildflower, forest honeydew, chestnut, linden, rhododendron, dandelion), as well as discover pollen, propolis, royal jelly, and beeswax.
