About Moncalvo Truffle Fair

Every autumn, the village of Moncalvo, nestled in the heart of the Asti Monferrato, celebrates the prized white truffle with one of the oldest and most renowned fairs in Piedmont. Between the stalls of Piazza Carlo Alberto and the Antichi Portici, exhibitors, trifolau (truffle hunters), and local producers bring to life an October weekend dedicated to the unmistakable aroma of Tuber Magnatum Pico, the region's food and wine excellence, and the rural traditions of the Lower Monferrato.

The Moncalvo National White Truffle Fair

The Moncalvo National White Truffle Fair is one of the most anticipated and long-standing food and wine events in Piedmont. Established in the 1950s, the festival celebrates the prized white truffle (Tuber Magnatum Pico), the jewel of the earth that grows in the woods and hills of the Asti Monferrato. Every autumn, the small village of Moncalvo, in the province of Asti, transforms into the capital of the truffle, attracting visitors, gourmets, and industry professionals from all over Italy.

The village and the territory

Moncalvo, a city of wines and flavors of the Lower Monferrato, offers the ideal setting for the fair: the historic center, with its Piazza Carlo Alberto bordered by the Antichi Portici, the cobbled streets, and the surrounding squares, welcomes exhibitors' stalls and tasting areas. The hilly landscape of the Monferrato, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site along with the Langhe and Roero, provides the backdrop for an event that combines gastronomy, tradition, and regional identity.

The program

The fair takes place over several days in October and offers a rich calendar of initiatives:

  • Truffle market with the famous trifolau and traders, where you can admire and purchase the precious tubers
  • Hundreds of exhibitors of typical products, Monferrato wines, cheeses, cured meats, and traditional Piedmontese sweets
  • Truffle competitions, with awards such as the "Golden Truffle" and the "Silver Zappino" assigned by a jury of experts
  • Show cooking with local Michelin-starred chefs, a novelty introduced in recent editions
  • Tasting areas, excursions, experiences, and guided tours among the hills and castles of the Monferrato

A Piedmontese excellence

The white truffle of the Monferrato is considered among the most prized in the world, and Moncalvo is one of its historic markets. The fair represents not only a commercial showcase but also an opportunity to discover the culture of truffle hunting, the art of the trifolau and their dogs, and the entire food and wine heritage of a territory that has made taste its identity. An unmissable appointment for those who want to experience the Piedmontese autumn among authentic flavors and centuries-old traditions.
