About San Martino Fair

Every November, the historic center of Chieri, in the province of Turin, hosts the San Martino National Fair, one of the most cherished and iconic events in Piedmont. Originally an agricultural fair rooted in farming traditions, it now combines displays of agricultural machinery, local produce, handicrafts, guided tastings, shows, and workshops for all ages. Standout local delicacies include the Galucio 'd Cher, sweet focaccia, Rubatà breadsticks, and Freisa wine.

The San Martino National Fair in Chieri

The San Martino National Fair is the most anticipated autumn event in the municipality of Chieri, located in the province of Turin, in the heart of Piedmont. For five days, coinciding with the feast of Saint Martin on November 11th, the city's historic center transforms into a vast open-air market where agricultural tradition, food and wine, craftsmanship, and local innovation converge.

A history tied to the land

The fair originated as an agricultural event marking the end of the farming year and the traditions of the Turin hills. According to custom, Saint Martin's Day signaled the time for agricultural contracts, the moving of sharecroppers, and the first taste of new wine. From those roots, the fair has preserved its rural soul, evolving over the years into a nationally significant event that attracts tens of thousands of visitors from across Piedmont every edition.

What to see and do

The program is spread across the main squares and streets of Chieri, each dedicated to a specific theme:

  • Agricultural Fair featuring displays of farm machinery, equipment, an educational farm, and small animals;
  • Agri-food Market Exhibition with local producers and Slow Food presidia;
  • Pro Loco Village, where municipalities from the Chieri area offer their traditional dishes;
  • Taste Square with street food, tastings, and culinary delights;
  • Large Market for hobbies, crafts, and antiques;
  • roaming performances, marching bands, children's workshops, and a funfair.

The flavors of the region

At the heart of the event is the promotion of local gastronomic excellence: Galucio 'd Cher, sweet focaccia, Rubatà breadsticks, and Freisa wine are the symbols of a territory with a strong oenological and confectionery identity. Sensory journeys and guided tastings guide the public in discovering Piedmontese wines, vermouth, and meats, often featuring renowned food critics.

Patronage and local identity

The San Martino Fair is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Piedmont Region, the Metropolitan City of Turin, and the UNESCO MaB CollinaPo, confirming the link between the event and the hilly landscape of the Chieri area. It is one of the best opportunities to discover Chieri, its textile and gastronomic traditions, and the gentle landscape of the Turin hills.
