A gourmet walk in the heart of the Comino Valley

The Magnalonga of Settefrati, also known as «Borgo con Gusto» (Village with Taste), is one of the most anticipated food and wine events of the summer in the Comino Valley, the green amphitheater of Ciociaria nestled at the foot of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park. The format is the classic gourmet walk: a multi-stop route through the alleys of the historic center, where at each station you can sample a traditional local dish, a glass of wine, and enjoy live folk music. It is not just a simple food festival, but a true culinary itinerary that transforms the entire village into an open-air dining room.

Over twenty years of tradition

The event began in the early 2000s—the first edition dates back to 2001—and has grown year after year to become a benchmark for the entire province of Frosinone: local reports from the 18th edition in 2018 already noted over 2,000 attendees in a single evening. After the forced break during the pandemic years, the Magnalonga has returned to enliven the town: the twentieth edition took place in August 2025, as part of the «Le Vie del Giubileo» project, supported by ARSIAL, the regional agency for the development and innovation of agriculture in Lazio.

A route through alleys and ancient cellars

The heart of the event is the historic center of Settefrati, a stone village perched at an altitude of about 800 meters. Food stalls are set up along the alleys and inside the ancient cellars of the village, opened specifically for the occasion. You walk from stop to stop, plate and glass in hand, while folk groups in costume and zampogna players—heirs to a strong musical tradition in this part of Ciociaria—accompany the evening with traditional music and dancing. The atmosphere is that of an authentic village feast, where the dishes are largely prepared by the residents themselves.

The Magnalonga menu is a compendium of the humble, hearty cuisine of the Comino Valley, based on local ingredients:

• Polenta seasoned in the traditional peasant style;
• Tacconelle in broth, fresh pasta typical of the valley;
• Sagne e fagioli, the signature dish of Settefrati;
• Cotiche e fagioli (pork rinds and beans), a classic Ciociaria recipe;
• Pane ammollato (soaked bread), an ancient recipe for minimizing food waste;
• Roasted meats («l'arrust»), an essential end to the culinary journey.

The Municipality of Settefrati, in the province of Frosinone (Lazio), is one of the most characteristic villages in the Comino Valley, a gateway to the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park and a starting point for the Canneto Valley, home to the famous sanctuary of the Madonna di Canneto, a pilgrimage site for centuries. The Magnalonga is part of a summer full of events—from the Orapi and Asparagus Festival to the celebrations of the Madonna di Canneto in mid-August—and represents the ideal opportunity to discover the town at its most vibrant, amidst flavors, music, and genuine hospitality.
