The Taste of Autumn is the annual food and wine event that, every November, brings the historic center of San Donato Val di Comino in the Lazio region to life. Organized by the local Pro Loco, the event invites visitors and residents alike to wander through the medieval village streets, following a true culinary trail: at every stop, you can sample the best traditional local dishes, paired with fine wines, craft beers, and cocktails.

A culinary journey through the alleys

The format is the increasingly popular 'diffused festival' style: not just a single square, but an itinerary winding through the historic center, with tasting stalls set up along the stone lanes. Exhibitors, artisans, and producers bring the very best of the Ciociaria region to the village, from mountain specialties to rustic autumn flavors. As you walk from one tasting to the next, you will discover hidden corners, arches, and small squares in one of the most charming villages in the Comino Valley.

Music and street performers

The atmosphere is made even more engaging by the musical spots scattered along the route: local bands and street performers accompany the Saturday evening and Sunday daytime festivities, turning the tastings into a popular celebration for all ages. The warm glow of the illuminated alleys, the aromas from the kitchens, and the live music create that authentic ambiance that has made this event a small classic of the Ciociaria autumn.

San Donato Val di Comino, a 'Bandiera Arancione' village

The municipality of San Donato Val di Comino, perched on the slopes overlooking the Comino Valley at the gateway to the Abruzzo, Lazio, and Molise National Park, has been awarded the 'Bandiera Arancione' (Orange Flag) by the Italian Touring Club. This recognition is reserved for small inland villages that combine high-quality hospitality with historical and environmental value. Its historic center, with its stone houses, stairways, and valley views, provides the perfect backdrop for an event dedicated to rediscovering local traditions.

An autumn ritual to rediscover traditions

Born to revive the flavors and customs of the past, the festival has grown with every edition: in 2024 it reached its ninth year, and in 2025 it was confirmed for the All Saints' weekend, opening Saturday evening from 7:00 PM and Sunday from 11:00 AM. Entry to the festival village is free, and tastings can be purchased directly at the stalls along the route.
