New wine, Ciociaria flavors, and the playful Parade of the Cuckolds in the historic center of Vallerotonda
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
As autumn paints the woods of Ciociaria, Vallerotonda prepares for its most anticipated event: the Saint Martin's Feast and New Wine Festival, held every year in mid-November on the Sunday closest to the saint's day on November 11th. For an entire day, Piazza Duomo and the historic alleys are filled with aromas, music, and joy to celebrate the end of the grape harvest and its youngest fruit: the new wine, which, according to the famous popular saying, ยซat Saint Martin's, every must becomes wineยป.
Organized by the Pro Loco Vallerotonda with the support of the Municipality of Vallerotonda, the festival has surpassed thirty-eight editions. In 2025, the 38th Saint Martin's Feast and the 20th New Wine Festival were celebrated, confirming an event now deeply rooted in the autumn festival calendar of the Lazio region. Every year, the event attracts visitors from across the province of Frosinone and nearby Molise, drawn by the genuine atmosphere of a village that proudly preserves its rural roots.
The heart of the event is the food and wine tour through the village streets: a culinary journey to discover characteristic spots and genuine flavors, with stands open from noon until evening. New wine flows in the glasses, accompanied by specialties of Ciociaria cuisine: bruschetta with new oil, local products, and many gastronomic surprises prepared by volunteers. The route is completed by traditional sensory workshops and a market featuring local and artisanal products.
The most photographed and amusing moment of the day is the historic Parade of the Cuckolds with its associated Horns Competition: a playful procession that ironically evokes the Italian popular tradition that considers Saint Martin the protector of betrayed husbands. Horns of every shape and size parade through two wings of amused crowds, in one of the rare examples in Lazio of this custom found in many Italian regions.
The festival is accompanied by roving folk music, street performers animating squares and alleys, as well as games and entertainment designed for children: a formula that makes the festival suitable for all ages, from groups of friends to families.
The village of Vallerotonda, perched on the mountains of the upper Terra di Lavoro a few kilometers from Cassino, in the province of Frosinone, offers visitors striking views of the valley and a historic center gathered around the church of Piazza Duomo. The November festival is the ideal opportunity to discover this authentic corner of the Lazio Region, far from the most beaten tourist circuits, where hospitality is still that of genuine mountain villages.
For 2026, the 39th Saint Martin's Feast and the 21st New Wine Festival are expected to renew the mid-November appointment in Vallerotonda, in the province of Frosinone, but at the moment, the Pro Loco has not yet published the official date or the program. Based on previous editions, the festival should take place on a Sunday in Piazza Duomo and the historic center, with the food and wine tour, new wine, traditional workshops, folk music, street performers, and the traditional Parade of the Cuckolds. Information will be updated as soon as it becomes available on the Pro Loco Vallerotonda channels.
Vallerotonda is located in the province of Frosinone, in southern Lazio. By car: A1 Rome-Naples motorway, exit at Cassino or San Vittore del Lazio, then follow the signs for Vallerotonda along the provincial roads. By train: Cassino station (Rome-Naples line via Cassino), then continue by COTRAL bus or taxi.
Admission to the festival is free; tastings and food can be purchased directly at the stands along the food and wine tour, which open at 12:00.
The historic center has limited parking: it is best to arrive in the late morning. In November, the mountain village can be cold, especially after sunset: warm clothing and comfortable shoes for the sloping alleys are recommended.
