About Polenta Festival

In Alvito, a charming village in the Comino Valley (Frosinone), the Polenta Festival brings the quintessential dish of the Apennine winter to the table. Launched in 2025 by the local Pro Loco, the event enlivens the Terrazza dei Cappuccini with various polenta recipes, mulled wine, local delicacies, and live music. Under heated gazebos, amidst the aroma of rich meat sauces and spiced wine, the community gathers for a festive day in the heart of the pre-Christmas season.

A new culinary celebration in the heart of the Comino Valley

The Polenta Festival is one of the newest gastronomic events in Alvito, an elegant village nestled in the Comino Valley, in the heart of the Frosinone province, in Lazio. Established in December 2025 by the Pro Loco of Alvito, in collaboration with the Municipality and the Chiosco Mequio, the festival dedicates an entire day to the iconic dish of the Apennine winter, celebrated as a symbol of community, warmth, and sharing just before the Christmas holidays.

Polenta, the queen of the winter table

The heart of the event is, naturally, polenta, served in various versions to satisfy every palate: from polenta topped with a savory pork rib sauce to the simpler and more delicate plain version. To accompany it, enjoy fine local wine, the essential steaming mulled wine, and a selection of local products that showcase the genuine flavors of the Comino Valley.

Music, entertainment, and a festive atmosphere

The festival is about more than just food: throughout the day, musical entertainment accompanies visitors, while a special space is reserved for families with afternoon activities for children, managed by the Chiosco Mequio. The Terrazza dei Cappuccini, equipped with fully heated gazebos, allows guests to enjoy the festivities sheltered from the cold in a welcoming and convivial setting.

An event born from the community

Although it is in its first edition, the Alvito Polenta Festival joins a long-standing tradition of popular festivals that enliven the villages of southern Lazio during the winter months. The choice of December is no coincidence: polenta is the ultimate comfort food of the cold season, making the event the perfect occasion to gather, rediscover authentic flavors, and experience the sense of community that defines the small towns of the Ciociaria region.

Alvito and the Comino Valley

Visiting the festival is also an opportunity to discover Alvito, with its historic center, the Cantelmo Castle, and the panoramic views over the Comino Valley, an area of great natural value on the borders of the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio, and Molise. It is a territory where gastronomy, history, and landscape intertwine to offer an authentic experience just a stone's throw from the peaks of the Apennines.

Polenta Festival — edition 2026

Following the success of the first edition in 2025, the Alvito Polenta Festival is expected to return in December 2026. The Pro Loco of Alvito has not yet announced the official date or the detailed program for the new edition.

The second edition of the Polenta Festival in Alvito is expected during the 2026 Christmas season, but at the moment, the Pro Loco of Alvito has not yet made the date or the program official. Building on the success of the first edition, we expect the return of polenta served in various styles, mulled wine, local products from the Comino Valley, and entertainment for all ages at the Terrazza dei Cappuccini. The indicated date is provisional and will be updated as soon as it is released by the organizers.
