The Caldaro Wine Days

The Kalterer Weintage (Caldaro Wine Days) are among the most anticipated wine events in South Tyrol. Every year, at the beginning of September, the historic market square of Caldaro sulla strada del vino/Kaltern an der Weinstraße, in the province of Bolzano, comes alive for two evenings with tasting stalls, wine glasses, and the aroma of freshly poured wines. The event, which has over thirty years of tradition, is organized by the wein.kaltern Genossenschaft cooperative and brings together local producers in a widespread event, following the motto "a whole village tastes".

A whole village to taste

The heart of the festival is the rich selection of around 150 different wines: whites, rosés, and reds presented personally by Caldaro's winemakers, master cellarmen, and expert oenologists. Each stall tells a story, a grape variety, a vintage: from the famous Lago di Caldaro (Kalterersee), the signature red wine of the territory made from Schiava grapes, to the freshest and most contemporary interpretations of the South Tyrolean terroir. Visitors can move freely between the stands, chat with producers, and discover the secrets of one of Italy's most renowned wine-growing areas.

Flavors and tradition

Accompanying the wine are typical South Tyrolean delicacies: the Bäuerinnen (local farmers) offer local specialties such as alpine cheese, speck, and the famous Äpfelkiachln, sweet apple fritters, alongside refined chocolate creations. It is the perfect opportunity to savor the food and wine identity of the village, where wine culture intertwines with the culinary tradition.

An event in the heart of the Wine Road

The Kalterer Weintage take place in an exceptional setting: the South Tyrolean Wine Road, amidst terraced vineyards, historic farmsteads, and the picturesque Lake Caldaro. The two main evenings are often surrounded by side events dedicated to wine, from evening tastings with musical accompaniment to guided walks through the rows of vines.
