Five days of rural traditions and local flavors in the Collepietro district of Mosciano Sant'Angelo
Every July, the Collepietro district, a hamlet of Mosciano Sant'Angelo in the province of Teramo, brings one of the most iconic rituals of Abruzzo's rural civilization back to life: grain threshing. The Historical Threshing Re-enactment and Frittella Festival, organized by Pro Loco Collepietro, has become a staple of the Teramo summer, blending the memory of field labor with the region's culinary heritage.
The heart of the event is the re-enactment of ancient agricultural practices: vintage threshing machines and tractors are fired up to demonstrate how grain was separated from straw just a few decades ago. Alongside the threshing demonstrations and grain estimation, the public can enjoy folk songs and dances, as well as scenes of rural life that tell the story of an agricultural Abruzzo that has almost vanished. It is a highly educational experience, popular with families and children, featuring workshops and activities for all ages.
The re-enactment is accompanied by the Frittella Festival, dedicated to one of the symbols of Abruzzo's peasant cuisine. The frittella, a simple fried dough once made with whatever was available in the pantry, takes center stage here, served at the food stands in various versions alongside other traditional regional dishes. The traditional Sunday lunch featuring authentic peasant recipes is a highlight of the event.
The five-day program is packed with entertainment: dance nights with orchestras, cover band performances, cabaret shows, and activities for all ages. Food stands open every evening, accompanying concerts and shows until late at night, while the festival traditionally concludes with a prize-filled lottery draw.
Now in its tenth year, the festival has grown annually thanks to the dedication of the Pro Loco Collepietro volunteers, becoming a landmark event for Mosciano Sant'Angelo and the entire province of Teramo. With free admission, the Threshing Re-enactment and Frittella Festival offers an authentic opportunity to rediscover the agricultural roots of Abruzzo, amidst genuine flavors, live music, and the warm hospitality of a small local community.
For 2026, Pro Loco Collepietro announces the tenth edition of the Historical Threshing Re-enactment combined with the sixth Frittella Festival, scheduled from July 15 to 19 in the Collepietro district of Mosciano Sant'Angelo. As per tradition, the five days will feature threshing demonstrations with vintage machines and tractors, folk songs and dances, food stands serving frittelle and peasant cuisine, as well as dance nights, cabaret shows, and cover band concerts for all ages. The event concludes with a lottery draw. The detailed program with times and artist names will be released by Pro Loco Collepietro in the weeks leading up to the event. Free admission.
The event takes place in the Collepietro district, a hamlet of Mosciano Sant'Angelo (TE), in the rolling hills of the Abruzzo hinterland, just a few kilometers from the Teramo coast.
By car: take the Mosciano Sant'Angelo / Giulianova exit on the A14 motorway, then follow signs for Mosciano Sant'Angelo and the Collepietro district. The nearest train station is Giulianova, on the Adriatic line, connected to the town center by local buses.
Free admission. Food stands open every evening serving frittelle and traditional peasant dishes. Event area, children's entertainment, and ample parking near the festival site.
Program and updates are available on the Pro Loco Collepietro channels (website, Facebook, and Instagram pages).
