Castellalto's Widespread Summer

The Castellalto Summer Calendar is the summer festival promoted by the Municipality of Castellalto, a medieval village in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo. The territory of Castellalto stretches between the valleys of the Tordino and Vomano rivers, encompassing the historic centres of Castellalto and Castelbasso and the populous settlements of Castelnuovo Vomano and Villa Zaccheo-Petriccione. This fragmented geography is reflected in the festival, which brings performances to the various communities: evenings are held at the Belvedere of Castellalto, in Piazza Progresso in Petriccione, in Piazza del Mercato in Castellalto, and in the squares of the other hamlets, enhancing urban spaces and the hilly panoramas overlooking the Gran Sasso.

Music, Cinema, and Popular Theatre

The programme alternates between musical and theatrical moments. Among the concerts, the dawn appointment "When Music Meets Cinema... at Dawn!" stands out, combining live soundtracks and great music in one of the most evocative corners of the village. Ample space is dedicated to amateur and dialect theatre, featuring local companies: the Compagnia La Bottega del Sorriso, a historic group from Castellalto, the company "E compagnia bella...", and the Compagnia I Girasoli perform brilliant comedies in the local vernacular, capable of bringing entire communities together in the squares.

Under the Banner of the Laga-Gran Sasso Summer

The festival is part of the broader Laga-Gran Sasso Summer context, the schedule of music and popular theatre events that enlivens the municipalities of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park every August. For Castellalto, it is a recurring appointment, the result of the work of local associations and volunteers who renew a calendar of evenings dedicated to conviviality and tradition every year.
