Traditional grape picking and treading among the Moscato vines in Santo Stefano Belbo
In the heart of the Langhe, in Santo Stefano Belbo (a town in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont), Cascina Fontanette celebrates the Grape Harvest Festival every autumn, an event dedicated to grape picking and local winemaking traditions. For four weekends, the farm opens its rows and cellar to visitors, enthusiasts, and families, offering an authentic experience among the Moscato hills, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The highlight of the festival is the educational harvest: participants can pick grapes directly from the vines and try their hand at traditional treading, crushing the clusters in vats just as it was done in the past. Guided tours then lead to the discovery of the cellar, where winemaking and aging processes are explained. It is a way to gain a close-up understanding of the entire cycle from grape to glass.
After activities in the vineyards, it is time for conviviality. Tastings allow you to pair the farm's wines with traditional Langhe dishes: cured meats, cheeses and peppers, ravioli al plin, and hazelnut cake with Moscato cream. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are available upon reservation, as well as a menu designed for children.
The Grape Harvest Festival is designed for the whole family. While adults enjoy the tastings, children can participate in creative activities such as body painting, drawing, and entertainment. The days are also accompanied by musical entertainment by Maurizio Gallo and an area dedicated to sampling typical local products.
Santo Stefano Belbo, home to the poet Cesare Pavese, is one of the most representative centers for the production of Moscato d'Asti and Asti Spumante. The Grape Harvest Festival at Cascina Fontanette thus combines wine discovery with the charm of the Langhe hilly landscape, during the harvest season—the most evocative time of the year for the region.
