GiRocca: walk and taste at the foot of the Rocca
Every May 1st, the town of Cavour, in the heart of the Pinerolo area near Turin, hosts GiRocca, a gourmet walking tour organized by the Vivi la Rocca APS association. The concept is simple yet effective: hike the trails of the famous Rocca di Cavour, stopping along the way at various points where local businesses, restaurants, and associations offer samples of regional specialties. Walking, tasting, and discovering the territory blend into a single day of celebration.
A loop route between nature and history
The trail winds through flat sections and mountain paths, with a moderate but pleasantly challenging elevation gain: for this reason, wearing suitable trekking footwear is recommended. Along the way, you will cross some of Cavour's most evocative sites: the gardens of Villa Peyron, the Roman Fountain, Villa Giolitti, the Roccart wooden sculpture park, and the Santa Maria Abbey, where the walk concludes with a celebration. It is not just a gourmet outing, but a true itinerary for discovering the natural and historical heritage of the Rocca.
A local Cavour event
GiRocca has grown edition after edition thanks to the work of the Vivi la Rocca volunteers and the collaboration of numerous local entities: the Gruppo Fanti, the Alpini Group, and the town's restaurants and producers. Participation is limited and requires booking, with staggered departures in small groups every fifteen minutes starting in the morning. It is one of those initiatives that captures the soul of the province of Turin and the Piedmont region: conviviality, good food, and a love for the landscape. For those visiting Cavour, it is the perfect opportunity to experience the Rocca as a protagonist, step by step and taste by taste.
GiRocca — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of GiRocca, the seventh, proposed a renewed itinerary at the foot of the Rocca di Cavour, in the province of Turin. The route, about five kilometers long with 160 meters of elevation gain, alternated flat stretches and mountain paths for a total duration of about five hours. Among the novelties were the opening of the Tina d'Pera and the rediscovery of spaces that had become accessible again after years. Organized by the Vivi la Rocca association, the event confirmed the formula that combines walking, tasting, and discovering the Cavour area, with staggered departures from Piazza Sforzini.
