Guided tours of the restoration sites at Castello della Manta
Open for Restoration is the 2026 event series that exceptionally opens the active conservation sites at Castello della Manta, one of the most beloved properties of the FAI โ National Trust for Italy, to the public. The appointments take place in the town of Manta, in the province of Cuneo, in the heart of the Saluzzo area, offering a rare opportunity: to observe the work of restorers up close and understand how one of Piedmont's most important historical and artistic heritages is preserved.
Unlike a traditional tour, here the public enters the heart of the restoration site. Participants engage with experts who explain the conservation work on the sixteenth-century rooms on the first floorโthe wing commissioned by Michele Antonio Saluzzo della Mantaโfeaturing its state rooms and the architectural and decorative elements currently under restoration. Other sessions are dedicated to the orchard of ancient fruit varieties, a living testament to the region's biodiversity and agricultural culture.
The series is part of the SavoiaExperience โ A tourist and cultural circuit in the heart of Europe project, funded by the Interreg VI-A France-Italy ALCOTRA 2021-2027 program. The project connects residences and castles linked to the history of the House of Savoy between Piedmont and France, promoting cross-border heritage and the conservation efforts that ensure its future.
The ancient residence of the Saluzzo della Manta counts, the castle houses one of the most extraordinary late-Gothic painting cycles in Europe: the famous Baronial Hall with its frescoes of Heroes and Heroines and the Fountain of Youth. Its atmosphere, suspended between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, makes Manta an unmissable stop for those visiting the Lands of Savoy and the Cuneo area.
Each session welcomes a limited number of participants to ensure an intimate, high-quality experience. The initiative makes Castello della Manta not just a place to admire, but an open laboratory where one can understand the value of heritage protection in Piedmont.
The 2026 calendar includes six appointments at Castello della Manta. Tours of the sixteenth-century rooms under restoration are held on Friday April 17, May 15, October 23, and November 20, with slots at 11:00, 11:30, 15:00, and 15:30.
