Five nights of handmade pasta, grilled sausage, and live music in Piazza La Rocca
The Fusillo al Tegamino (and Sausage) Festival is the most anticipated summer event in San Mango Piemonte, a small town in the Province of Salerno, Campania, nestled on the rolling hills that rise from the Irno Valley toward the Picentini Mountains. Every year, between late July and early August, Piazza La Rocca fills with long tables, the aroma of ragรน, and live music: for five evenings, the town becomes a large open-air kitchen, and the center stays lively until late at night.
It is a village festival in the most authentic sense: no staged scenery, but an entire village working together to welcome thousands of visitors from Salerno, neighboring towns, and now even from outside the region.
The absolute star is the fusillo al tegamino, a specialty that in San Mango Piemonte is not just a dish but a true mark of identity. The pasta is fresh, handmade around a metal rod, and served in characteristic terracotta pots that retain heat and concentrate the flavors. The topping is a slow-cooked ragรน, enriched with cheese that melts under the spoon: a simple, rustic preparation that relies entirely on the quality of the ingredients and the patience of those who prepare it.
What makes the tasting special is the collective effort of the volunteers who, in the hours leading up to the opening of the stands, prepare impressive quantities of pasta by hand. It is this choral work, even more than the recipe, that explains why the festival has become a gastronomic landmark for the entire Salerno area over the years.
The full name of the event reminds us that alongside the pasta, there is a second protagonist: grilled sausage, cooked outdoors and served hot. In recent years, the menu has expanded with offerings that broaden the journey through Southern flavors:
All at village-festival prices, with table service in the open-air seating area and the option for takeaway.
The festival is not just about food. Each evening features a free concert in the square, with a program that alternates folk music, Neapolitan songs, dance revivals, and tribute bands, followed by DJ sets that continue until late at night. Over the years, entertainment shows such as fire juggling have also been added, much appreciated by younger audiences and families.
A choice that deserves to be highlighted is the presence of a gluten-free stand, also recognized by the Italian Celiac Association of Campania: those following a gluten-free diet can enjoy a dedicated version of the festival's specialties in a context where fresh pasta is everywhere.
The festival is promoted by the San Magno Association, with the patronage of the Municipality of San Mango Piemonte and the support of the Parish of Saints Nicola and Matteo. It is an event built entirely on volunteer work: the town's citizens handle the cooking, service, setup, and logistics, and the proceeds contribute to community activities.
San Mango Piemonte is located just a few kilometers from Salerno, in a position that makes it easy to combine the festival with a day in the city, on the Amalfi Coast, or among the villages of the Picentini area. Those who arrive in the evening find a real party, where you eat well for little money and where the Campanian gastronomic tradition is not a tourist performance but home cooking, served in the square.
For 2026, the San Magno Association extends the event to five consecutive nights, from Friday, July 31 to Tuesday, August 4, with the patronage of the Municipality of San Mango Piemonte and the support of the Parish of Saints Nicola and Matteo. The heart of the festival remains Piazza La Rocca, with food stands, outdoor tables, and the music stage.
The fusillo al tegamino โ fresh handmade pasta tossed with ragรน and served in a terracotta pot โ remains the signature dish, accompanied by the grilled sausage that gives the festival its name. The 2026 edition menu includes arrosticini, frionzola, melanzane allardate, a wide selection of sandwiches (including the spleen version), homemade desserts, and local wines. The Igloo-branded gluten-free stand is also confirmed, with a renewed menu.
Every evening features a free concert followed by a DJ set: starting with the folk music of Canto del Sud and the Nerida Fire Show, continuing with Genny Marigliano, Skizzekea and Neapolitan songs, the dance revival of Disco Inferno, and closing with the band Via Toledo.
