Four evenings of PGI porchetta, traditional lagane and chickpeas, and live music at the foot of the Picentini Mountains.
The Porchetta, Lagane and Chickpeas Festival is one of the most anticipated food and wine events of late summer in the province of Salerno. It takes place in Macchia, the most populous hamlet of the municipality of Montecorvino Rovella, in Campania—a village nestled on the plains at the foot of the Picentini Mountains, within the Picentini Mountains Regional Park. For four consecutive evenings, the festival area fills with food stalls, street food vendors, lights, and live music, marking it as a staple in the Salerno summer festival calendar.
The signature dish of the event is the PGI porchetta from Ariccia, served in classic hot sandwiches. In past editions, the porchetta was roasted in a traditional wood-fired oven, and even today, the porchetta stand remains the beating heart of the evening: it is where the longest lines form, amidst the scent of aromatic herbs and the spectacle of the meat being carved. Alongside the sandwiches, you will find fried snacks, gluten-free options, artisanal gelato, and desserts, offering a culinary journey to satisfy every palate.
The other half of the festival's name highlights a humble, iconic dish of the Salerno area: lagane and chickpeas, wide, handmade water-and-flour ribbons tossed with chickpeas. This is a recipe that has graced family tables and village festivals in the Picentini territory for generations, and in Macchia, it is prepared according to the traditional recipe. The dishes are perfectly paired with local red wine and draft beer, served at the stalls set up throughout the festival area.
Each evening features its own entertainment. Over the years, the stage in Macchia has hosted artists from the Neapolitan and Campanian music scenes, folk groups, and comedy acts, following a formula that blends flavor, tradition, and fun. Admission is free, and the atmosphere remains that of a genuine village festival, with families, groups of friends, and visitors from neighboring towns filling the tables until late at night. The full program is announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
Founded in the mid-2010s—with the first edition dating back to 2015—the event reached its eleventh edition in 2025, held from August 29th to September 1st. While the dates have shifted between July, August, and early September over the years, the formula remains unchanged: four days of stalls, music, and conviviality that have made Macchia a small capital of porchetta in Southern Campania.
Macchia has just under two thousand inhabitants and stretches along the state road 164, at an altitude of about 138 meters. The municipality of Montecorvino Rovella, in the province of Salerno, preserves a medieval historic center and a landscape that rises rapidly toward the peaks of the Picentini. For those arriving from out of town, the festival is also an opportunity to discover a lesser-known corner of inland Campania, just a few kilometers from the Sele plain and the Salerno coast: a walk through the local villages, followed by an evening of celebration with porchetta, lagane, and music.
The hamlet of Macchia, in Montecorvino Rovella in the province of Salerno, hosts the new edition of the Porchetta, Lagane and Chickpeas Festival from August 28th to 31st, 2026. Four days of evening food stalls dedicated to PGI porchetta from Ariccia served in hot sandwiches and lagane and chickpeas prepared by hand according to the traditional recipe of the Picentini territory.
Alongside the two signature dishes, the festival area offers street food, fried snacks, desserts, and artisanal gelato, with local red wine and draft beer. The evenings are accompanied by live music and shows, following the proven formula that has made this event one of the most popular in the Salerno late summer. Admission is free.
The detailed program for the four evenings, including musical guests and schedules, will be released by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event via the festival's social media channels.
