Two evenings of coastal cuisine, folk music, and charity in the square of San Pietro in Posula
The Notte di Sapori in San Pietro is a gastronomic festival that brings the square of San Pietro in Posula, located above the center of Maiori in the province of Salerno, Campania, to life every August. Launched in 2025 by the Oratorio e Circolo ANSPI “San Pietro in Posula,” the event immediately found its audience: two evenings where the square fills with long tables, the scent of home-cooked food, and music, with locals and tourists sitting side by side.
San Pietro is located about 800 meters from the beach of Maiori, along the Via Vecchia Provinciale Chiunzi, the road that climbs toward the inland Monti Lattari. It is one of those hillside neighborhoods where the Amalfi Coast reveals its most authentic, everyday face: clustered houses, cultivated terraces, and a cozy square in front of the church. This neighborhood atmosphere is the hallmark of the festival, which was created not as a tourist attraction, but as a moment of community gathering.
The culinary side is curated in collaboration with the “Marini-Gioia-Comite” Hotel Management School of Maiori: for the students, it is a field exercise; for the participants, it is a chance to taste traditional coastal dishes prepared just as they were at home. The menu of the first edition included:
Admission to the festival is free; you only pay for the full menu, which can also be purchased in advance at designated locations.
Live music accompanies the evenings: in the first edition, the square was animated by the group Song Ro Sud, with a repertoire of engaging folk sounds. Alongside the music, a series of projections of historical images tells the story of the Maiori of yesteryear and the history of the San Pietro district, turning dinner into a small journey through the town's collective memory.
The distinctive feature of the event is its charitable purpose: the proceeds do not go to the organizers but are donated. After the first edition, the Circolo ANSPI distributed 1,500 euros, divided among a foundation for ALS research (500 euros), the “Stella Costa d'Amalfi” association dedicated to Lafora disease research (500 euros), the Parish of San Pietro in Posula (300 euros), and the Maiori section of the Gruppo Volontariato Vincenziano (200 euros); additionally, 300 kilos of peeled tomatoes were donated to the “Marini-Gioia” Hotel Management School for student training. Every donation was documented with bank transfers and receipts.
The Notte di Sapori in San Pietro is part of the Municipality of Maiori's summer program, “L'Estate della Dolce Vita,” which features around sixty events between June and September at the Teatro del Mare, the Tourist Port amphitheater, the Palazzo Mezzacapo Gardens, and the squares of the hamlets of San Pietro, Santa Maria delle Grazie, and Erchie. For those visiting the Amalfi Coast in August, it is one of the most authentic ways to experience Maiori away from the seafront, in a setting where the neighborhood festival remains, above all, a village celebration.
The 2026 edition of the Notte di Sapori in San Pietro is scheduled for August 2 and 3, 2026, in the San Pietro hamlet of Maiori, on the Amalfi Coast. The event is listed in the official summer program of the Municipality, “L'Estate della Dolce Vita,” which this year brings together about sixty events between June and September, most of which are free.
The organization is entrusted, as in the first edition, to the Oratorio e Circolo ANSPI “San Pietro in Posula,” which is bringing back the neighborhood festival formula: long tables in the square, traditional Maiori dishes, live music, and proceeds entirely donated to charitable causes. Admission to the evenings is free.
Piazzetta di San Pietro, San Pietro in Posula hamlet, Maiori (SA). It can be reached from the center of Maiori via Via Vecchia Provinciale Chiunzi: it is about 800 meters from the beach.
Maiori is located on the SS 163 Amalfitana road, between Amalfi and Vietri sul Mare. In summer, traffic along the coast is heavy and parking is limited: it is best to leave your car in town and reach the hamlet on foot. The reference train stations are Salerno and Vietri sul Mare, connected to Maiori by bus lines that run along the coast; during the summer season, sea connections along the coast are also active (please check seasonal timetables).
Admission to the event is free. The full tasting menu is paid and can also be purchased in advance at the points indicated by the Circolo ANSPI. All proceeds are donated to charity.
The evenings take place outdoors in a small square: it is advisable to arrive early to find a seat at the tables and purchase your menu in advance. It is a family-friendly event.
