The fried food festival at the Cascine di Buti sports complex
At the foot of Monte Pisano, in the municipality of Buti (province of Pisa, Tuscany), the village of Cascine di Buti hosts a long season of summer festivals every year, enlivening the sports area from June through September. Frittura in Festa is the event that closes this calendar, dedicated entirely to fried food: a classic of Tuscan conviviality that draws both locals and visitors from the surrounding area.
The festivals in Buti and Cascine di Buti follow a well-established formula: as the organizers note, "the Contrade of the Palio and local associations take turns at the stoves." It is a model of authentic popular celebration, where local volunteers cook and serve at the tables, and where the proceeds support local activities. Frittura in Festa was born from this tradition, offering simple, genuine cuisine designed to be shared in good company.
The common thread is, naturally, fried food, prepared in various versions according to local tradition:
Alongside the food, there is plenty of space for music and dancing, recurring elements of the gastronomic evenings in Cascine di Buti that make the festival a celebration for all ages.
Frittura in Festa takes place in the sports area of Cascine di Buti over two weekends in September. Evenings generally begin at 7:00 PM and continue until late. Admission to the area is free, and you only pay for what you consume. Its location, just a few kilometers from Pontedera and the Valdera region, makes the village easily accessible from the rest of the province of Pisa and central Tuscany.
For 2026, Frittura in Festa returns to Cascine di Buti for the last two weekends of September, closing the village's summer festival season. The event takes place in the sports area, with the kitchen opening in the evening. The absolute star is fried food, from fish to vegetables and meat specialties, served at the tables by local volunteers.
