The Piedmontese capital of cattle breeding, in Fossano
The Fossano Livestock Days represent one of the most cherished agricultural events in Piedmont and the entire province of Cuneo. Its beating heart is the Fat Calf Fair, an event rooted in the farming vocation of the Fossano territory, which has established itself, edition after edition, as a benchmark for breeders, technicians, and industry professionals. In 2026, the fair celebrated its 97th edition, confirming a continuity that is rare in the landscape of Italian livestock events.
By tradition, the Fat Calf Fair is always held on the Wednesday two weeks before Easter, while the accompanying Livestock Days are spread throughout the week. This timing, linked to the Easter calendar, makes each edition a highly anticipated ritual, drawing breeders to Fossano from across the province of Cuneo and beyond.
The program brings together some of the most important exhibitions in Cuneo's livestock sector, with over one hundred animals presented to the public:
During the exhibition days, Piazza Dompè hosts morphological evaluations, category finals, and parades of breed champions, accompanied by official award ceremonies. On the day of the Fat Calf Fair, at the Foro Boario, a commission of experts composed of butchers and breeders judges the calves on display: winning animals are awarded the traditional banner certifying their quality. The week is enriched by technical conferences at the Sala Brut e Bon on topics such as the prevention of respiratory diseases in calves and swine ethology, organized by ANABORAPI, the ASL CN1 Veterinary Service, and the Order of Veterinarians.
Alongside the exhibition, the Livestock Days are also an occasion for celebration and taste: community lunches and dinners celebrate Piedmontese breed meat, one of the gastronomic excellences of the Cuneo area, in a convivial atmosphere that unites the agricultural world and the local community.
Promoted by the Municipality of Fossano together with ANABORAPI, ARAP Piemonte, and the main industry associations, the Fossano Livestock Days are much more than a fair: they are a celebration of a rural identity that makes Fossano and the province of Cuneo a global reference point for Piedmontese cattle.
The 2026 edition of the Fossano Livestock Days opened on Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22, in Piazza Dompè with exhibitions of Piedmontese, Friesian, and Italian Simmental breeds. Over 120 head of cattle were presented, featuring morphological evaluations, category finals, and parades of champions. The days were broadcast via live streaming on YouTube starting at 9:00 AM.
On Tuesday, March 24, at 8:30 PM, the Sala Brut e Bon hosted an ANABORAPI conference dedicated to the prevention of respiratory diseases in calves. On Wednesday, March 25, the 97th Fat Calf Fair was held at the Foro Boario, featuring the exhibition of animals, evaluation by the technical commission, and award ceremonies. On Thursday, March 26, at 7:00 PM, the event concluded with a technical meeting on swine ethology hosted by the ASL CN1 Veterinary Service and the Order of Veterinarians.
