The taste of Trentino mountain dairy at the foot of Castel Valer
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Formai dal Mont is the annual autumn event that transforms Tassullo, a village in the municipality of Ville d'Anaunia (Autonomous Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige), into the capital of mountain dairy cheese. Organized by the Pro Loco Tassullo, the event takes place in a spectacular setting: the courtyards and grounds of the stunning Castel Valer, one of the most fascinating castles in the Val di Non, recognizable by its towering keep.
The heart of the event is the mountain dairy cheese—fresh or aged, cow's or goat's milk—produced at high altitudes by cheesemakers from the Val di Non, Val di Sole, and the Paganella Plateau. Each mountain dairy produces its own unique cheese, a result of the high-altitude pasture vegetation and techniques passed down through generations. The festival is also an opportunity to highlight the deep bond between the land, livestock farming, and Trentino's dairy culture.
The highlight is the mountain cheese competition, where products are evaluated by a jury of qualified experts; the public can also vote for their favorites. Surrounding the competition is a rich program of guided tastings, pairings with local wines, honey, and jams, as well as show cooking, lectures, and demonstrations. Don't miss La Casarada, a live cheesemaking demonstration, and the market featuring local specialties.
Formai dal Mont is more than just taste: the castle courtyards come alive with live music, folk performances, and social gatherings like the local-style aperitivo. For children, there are workshops (wool processing, educational activities) and pony rides, while everyone can enjoy guided tours of Castel Valer. An event that blends high-quality gastronomy, historical heritage, and folk traditions, perfect for those looking to discover the authentic soul of the Val di Non.
The 2026 edition of Formai dal Mont will return to Tassullo, in the municipality of Ville d'Anaunia (Val di Non, Trentino), within the grounds of Castel Valer. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by Pro Loco Tassullo: the festival traditionally takes place over an autumn weekend (between October and early November). The established format is confirmed: the mountain cheese competition of the Noce valleys, guided tastings, show cooking, the market of local products, live music, children's workshops, and castle tours. To find out dates and programs as soon as they are available, we recommend contacting Pro Loco Tassullo or checking the official website.
