The autumn festival of chestnuts and Val di Sole flavors in Terzolas
In the heart of Val di Sole, Trentino, the village of Terzolas hosts "Naturally... not just chestnuts" every autumn, one of the most anticipated events in the lower valley. Established in 2014 and growing with every edition, the festival focuses on chestnuts and apples—the two iconic fruits of Solandro fruit farming—while also highlighting the farming traditions, craftsmanship, and culture of this mountain region.
The event takes place throughout the historic center of Terzolas and within the charming setting of Palazzo Torraccia, an ancient building that now houses the town hall and the Val di Sole Study Center. Cultural presentations and meetings are held in the "Maria Teresa d'Austria" hall, while the village streets come alive with markets, music, and food stalls.
The weekend typically kicks off on Saturday afternoon with an inauguration at Palazzo Torraccia, featuring cultural talks on the history of fruit farming in Val di Sole, musical performances, and an aperitif. Sunday is the main event day:
Great attention is paid to the little ones, with workshops, face painting, shows, storytelling, and educational activities related to nature and the forest, often in collaboration with the Stelvio National Park. It is an ideal occasion for a family trip amidst the colors of autumn.
"Naturally... not just chestnuts" is the result of a collaboration between the Municipality of Terzolas, the Val di Sole Tourist Board, the Alpini Group, Caseificio Cercen, local restaurateurs, and numerous local associations. More than just a festival, it is a community moment that tells the story of the agricultural and cultural identity of Val di Sole and the Autonomous Province of Trento, within the broader context of Trentino-Alto Adige.
The "Naturally... not just chestnuts" festival returns to Terzolas, in Val di Sole, on October 10 and 11, 2026. The dates are confirmed by the Val di Sole Tourist Board, while the full program for the 2026 edition—including times, excursions to the ancient chestnut grove, tastings, and children's activities—will be announced closer to the event. As per tradition, the weekend will combine a market of local products, autumn gastronomy, live music, and family-oriented moments in the setting of Palazzo Torraccia and the historic center of the Trentino village.
Terzolas is located in Val di Sole, Trentino, near Malé. By car: take the A22 motorway exit at San Michele all'Adige-Mezzocorona, then follow the SS43 and SS42 towards Val di Sole. By train: take the Trento-Malé-Mezzana line operated by Trentino Trasporti and get off at Malé, just a few minutes from Terzolas.
