The autumn Törggelen festival by the Eppan Ski Club
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Törggelefest of the ASV Eppan Ski Club is an annual autumn festival organized by the Eppan Ski Club (ASV Eppan Ski) in the municipality of Eppan an der Weinstraße, in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of South Tyrol. It takes place every year on the first Sunday of October at the covered festival grounds in St. Michael, a venue that ensures the celebration can go ahead regardless of the weather.
Törggelen is one of South Tyrol's most deeply rooted autumn traditions. It stems from the farming custom of tasting the new wine (the Nuier) after the harvest, accompanied by hearty Tyrolean dishes and freshly gathered chestnuts. The term derives from the Latin torculum, the press used for crushing grapes. The Eppan festival brings this custom into the public square, welcoming families, hikers, and visitors alike.
The Ski Club kitchen prepares homemade autumn specialties, following the finest South Tyrolean Törggelen tradition:
The day is enlivened by live music from local bands: brass players kick off the festivities at noon, followed in the afternoon by a duo that keeps the party going until evening. Admission to the grounds is free, and the atmosphere is the authentic, family-friendly style typical of South Tyrolean village festivals.
The Törggelefest is more than just a social gathering: the proceeds from the event support the youth ski training program of the ASV Eppan Ski, helping to cover costs for transport, race registration, and training for young athletes. Attending the festival is a great way to support local sports.
Located along the famous South Tyrolean Wine Road, the municipality of Eppan is one of the most important wine-growing areas in the region. Autumn, with its vineyards turning shades of gold and red and chestnut groves heavy with fruit, is the perfect season to explore the area, and the Törggelefest is its signature event.
The Törggelefest of the ASV Eppan Ski Club is held every year on the first Sunday of October in Eppan an der Weinstraße (BZ), at the covered festival grounds in St. Michael. As of the writing of this page, the dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially communicated by the Ski Club. The festival is expected to feature, as per tradition, the autumn specialties of the Törggelen — pumpkin soup, dumplings, sausages, ribs, strauben, and roasted chestnuts — along with new wine and live music. The detailed program will be published on the Ski Club's website and Facebook page.
