Mountain choral singing evenings in Val di Sole
La Montanara – Mountain Choral Singing Evenings is one of the most beloved autumn events in Val di Sole. Every year, in the municipality of Dimaro Folgarida, in the Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), the Dimaro Theatre hosts a series of concerts dedicated to mountain choral singing, a tradition deeply rooted in the Alpine culture of Trentino.
The festival takes its name from La Montanara, the famous folk-inspired song composed in 1927 by mountaineer Toni Ortelli and arranged for four voices by Luigi Pigarelli: a piece that has become a symbol of mountain singing and is performed by choirs across the entire Alpine region.
The festival has been held continuously since 2004 and features some of the most acclaimed choirs in Trentino. The programme is spread over several Friday evenings, typically between September and October, starting at 8:00 PM. Each event showcases two choral groups in a dialogue of voices that spans from traditional mountain songs to folk harmonies and pieces linked to Alpine memory.
Over the years, numerous local groups have performed, including the Coro San Romedio Anaunia, the Coro Roen, the Coro Sasso Rosso Val di Sole, and the Coro di Voci Bianche Celestino Eccher della Val di Sole. The presence of a children's choir highlights the festival's commitment to passing on the choral tradition to new generations.
La Montanara is organized by the Val di Sole, Peio and Rabbi Tourist Board and represents a precious opportunity to discover the most authentic soul of the Trentino mountains through its song, right in the heart of the Brenta Dolomites.
The La Montanara 2026 festival takes place at the Dimaro Theatre (Dimaro Folgarida, Val di Sole) over three Friday evenings, all starting at 8:00 PM.
The evenings offer the traditional mountain choral repertoire, with bilingual presentations in Italian and German. Seating is reserved and admission is by booking; choir CDs can be purchased after the concerts.
Dimaro is located in Val di Sole, in the Province of Trento. By car: take the A22 motorway exit at Trento Nord or San Michele all'Adige, then follow the SS43 and SS42 towards Val di Sole. By train: the Trento-Malè-Marilleva railway connects the valley with a stop in Dimaro.
Admission is by reservation with reserved seating. Information and bookings are available at the Val di Sole Tourist Board offices (tel. +39 0463 901280) or on the website visitvaldisole.it.
The evenings take place on Fridays, starting at 8:00 PM.
