About Farfilò

Farfilò is a theatrical performance by the Gruppo Teatro Angrogna that weaves together songs and stories from the Alpine folk tradition, presented primarily in French, as well as in Italian and Patouà. In Luserna San Giovanni, in the heart of the Piedmontese Waldensian Valleys, the evening invites the audience into a whirlwind of music and words that preserve the memory of mountain communities across Piedmont, the Aosta Valley, and French-speaking Switzerland. A free event that celebrates the theater, music, and linguistic identity of the Alpine region.

Farfilò: Alpine memory brought to the stage

In Luserna San Giovanni, located in the Province of Turin and the heart of the Piedmontese Waldensian Valleys, Farfilò returns—the acclaimed show by the Gruppo Teatro Angrogna. It is a journey through songs and tales of the Alpine folk tradition, designed to immerse the audience in a musical tapestry performed primarily in French, but also in Italian and Patouà.

One language, many inflections

At the heart of Farfilò lies the linguistic and cultural richness of the Alps. The performance is delivered mainly in French, showcasing its diverse inflections: not only those of Marseille or Paris, but also the dialects of the cantons of Western Switzerland, the Aosta Valley, and the Waldensian Valleys of Piedmont. Alongside French, Italian and Patouà—the ancient local dialect—intertwine to tell the shared history of mountain communities on both sides of the Alps.

The Gruppo Teatro Angrogna

Founded in 1972 in Angrogna, within the Waldensian Valleys, the Gruppo Teatro Angrogna is one of the most enduring and respected folk theater companies in Italy. Composed of non-professional actors, the troupe has spent over fifty years bringing the culture, history, and traditions of the Waldensian and Occitan mountains to the stage, with a focus on civic engagement and collective memory. Farfilò continues this legacy, using music and the spoken word as tools to safeguard our shared heritage.

A project between Italy and France

Farfilò was born from a spirit of exchange and friendship with the Provençal regions. Following previous editions held in Altavalle, Trentino, and Cabrières d'Aigues, Provence, the show continues its journey between Piedmont and France: in the days following the Luserna San Giovanni performance, the company is scheduled to appear in Beaume-de-Venise and Bédoin, Provence. The evening in Luserna thus becomes a hub of a cross-border artistic path, fostering dialogue between Alpine valleys through their common linguistic and musical legacy.
