About Capitanata Sparkling Wine Festival

In San Severo, at the heart of the Alta Capitanata, the Capitanata Sparkling Wine Festival celebrates the Metodo Classico sparkling wines produced from the native grape varieties of the Daunia region. The three-day event features taste workshops, conferences, convivial dinners, and a grand tasting evening at the Villa Comunale, showcasing local wineries, AIS Foggia sommeliers, and the province's finest gastronomic delights. It is an event that highlights the identity, quality, and future of Apulian sparkling wines.

The Capitanata Sparkling Wine Festival

The Capitanata Sparkling Wine Festival is the premier event in San Severo—the leading city of the Alta Capitanata in the province of Foggia—dedicated to celebrating Metodo Classico sparkling wine crafted from the native grapes of the Daunia region. Established in 2025, the event is promoted by the Capitanata Metodo Classico Sparkling Wine Association with the goal of showcasing the identity, quality, and potential of a young yet rapidly growing wine sector, transforming these sparkling wines into a driver for economic, tourism, and employment development in the region.

A region destined for sparkling wine

The Capitanata region offers ideal conditions for sparkling wine production: limestone soils, hillside exposure to winds, and significant temperature fluctuations that promote the acidity and finesse essential for a great Metodo Classico. A network of wineries has formed around this vocation, uniting within the association to grow together by pooling expertise, research, and vision. The festival thus becomes a showcase for a collective project that weaves together traditional farming practices and scientific research, with contributions from the University of Foggia regarding climate and quality.

Three days of taste, culture, and conviviality

The program alternates between technical sessions and public events: taste workshops pairing sparkling wine with traditional Gargano dishes, a conference dedicated to the state of the art and future prospects of the Metodo Classico in Capitanata, convivial dinners in farmhouses, and a grand final tasting evening in the Villa Comunale of San Severo. Visitors are guided through their tastings by AIS Foggia delegation sommeliers, while live music and local gastronomic excellence complete the atmosphere.

The wineries of Capitanata

The event features participating local member wineries presenting their Metodo Classico labels: a tasting journey that fosters dialogue between historic producers and emerging estates of the Daunia region, all committed to enhancing native grape varieties.

San Severo, the wine capital of Apulia

A city with a rich oenological heritage, San Severo is home to one of the oldest designations of origin in Apulia and provides the natural setting for a festival that combines wine culture, wine tourism, and regional promotion. The event is held under the patronage of the Province of Foggia, the Municipality of San Severo, and the GAL Daunia Rurale 2020, confirming the strategic value placed on the sparkling wines of Capitanata.

Capitanata Sparkling Wine Festival — edition 2026

The second edition of the Capitanata Sparkling Wine Festival took place in San Severo from May 21 to 23, 2026, featuring three days dedicated to the Metodo Classico sparkling wine of the Daunia region: taste workshops, a technical conference, a convivial dinner in a farmhouse, and a grand tasting evening at the Villa Comunale with eight member wineries, AIS Foggia sommeliers, and live music.

From May 21 to 23, 2026, San Severo hosted the second edition of the Capitanata Sparkling Wine Festival, with a schedule featuring workshops, conferences, guided tastings, and convivial events dedicated to Metodo Classico sparkling wine.

The event opened on Thursday, May 21, at Cantina d'Araprì (Sala ARCA) with the taste lab "Miseria e Nobiltà - Gargano Pancotto meets Metodo Classico," a sensory journey between traditional Gargano cuisine and sparkling wine. On Friday, May 22, the Palazzina Liberty hosted the conference "Metodo Classico in Capitanata: State of the Art and Prospects," with discussions on sustainability, wine tourism, and digital wine marketing, followed in the evening by a convivial dinner at Masseria Celentano. The grand finale, on Saturday, May 23, was held at the Villa Comunale with a tasting evening featuring the eight member wineries, accompanied by local gastronomic excellence and live music.

The eight featured wineries were Almagaia, Re Dauno, Cantine 7 Campanili, Teanum, d'Araprì, Alberto Longo, Borgo Turrito, and Saracino.
