A food and wine evening celebrating Peranzana olive oil and novello wine in San Paolo di Civitate

The New Oil and Novello Wine Festival is the autumn event that brings San Paolo di Civitate to life every year. Located in the Alto Tavoliere area of the Foggia province, in the heart of the Apulian Capitanata, the festival is organized by Pro Loco Civitas APS with the support of the local municipality. It celebrates two iconic local products: freshly pressed Peranzana extra virgin olive oil and local novello wine.
The ancient Peranzana cultivar has found its ideal home in the Alto Tavoliere, within the triangle formed by San Severo, Torremaggiore, and San Paolo di Civitate. These olives produce an oil with an intense aroma and a delicately fruity taste, which is the absolute star of the evening tastings. At the festival, the new oil is enjoyed on classic bruschetta and as a dressing for the hearty bean and sausage soup, a traditional rural dish that warms up November evenings.
Alongside the oil, freshly bottled novello wine accompanies visitors as they stroll through the historic center. A must-try local delicacy is the cazz'malet: tagliatelle cooked in grape must, a specialty that highlights the town's deep connection to wine culture and the harvest.
The festival takes place on a November evening in the charming narrow streets of the village (in recent editions, Via Malice; in the past, Via Pitassi), transformed into a path of stalls, tastings, and conviviality. The event promotes local food and wine as a driver for tourism, inviting residents and visitors to rediscover the genuine flavors of the Apulian autumn in a festive, popular atmosphere.
Situated on the hills of the Alto Tavoliere, San Paolo di Civitate is a town with ancient agricultural roots, famous for its high-quality oil production. The New Oil and Novello Wine Festival is the perfect opportunity to discover this authentic corner of the Foggia province, far from the most beaten tourist paths but rich in tradition, hospitality, and typical products.
The dates for the 2026 edition of the New Oil and Novello Wine Festival have not yet been announced. Based on previous editions, all held in mid-November in the historic center of San Paolo di Civitate, the event is expected to return in 2026, organized by Pro Loco Civitas APS. Check back on this page for information on dates, location, and the program as soon as they are published.
